xBox 360 and Windows Media Centre - 02-28-2008, 11:40 PM

"The Xbox 360 can connect to both computers running Windows XP Service Pack 2 and a Windows Media Center PC. Connecting to a Windows XP SP2 computer will allow you to stream music and pictures from that machine while connecting to a Windows Media Center PC will provide the additional functionality to watch, record, pause and replay live TV, watch videos, and buy music and movies online. "
Xbox 360 Windows Media Center Setup Guide - Xbox

Like the Squash household, I expect a lot of people have an xBox sitting around gathering dust. I had forgotten about this feature until I read about it in an IT rag recently. I have not tried this, as I am loathe to fiddle with a network that currently runs perfectly (Already,I can hear the Gremlins gathering to rise to that little challenge).

I thought you would notice, Nightfly. It's called a Moonflower - It only flowers at night and for one night only. The flower can be as large as a dinner plate when fully open and pure white except for the yellow stamens. It also has a magnificent perfume, similar to Jasmine and Frangipani. Usually the plant, which blooms 2 or 3 times a year, only produces a couple of flowers but we have had an unusually wet summer and this week had 27 flowers over three nights. They are difficult to photograph without a tripod because of the flash flare from the white petals. I was given the plant as a cutting by a neighbour and don't know much about it except that I have never seen it commercially available.

It looks lovely, Squash. Take good care of it. Is Lab jealous of his replacement?

He knows Moonflowers have a spectacular but very short presence. He is more concerned about the cute little Westie he caught me photographing at the dog park.

Speaking of animals, I went to a superb new production of Carmen at the Opera House on Thursday. The Toreador made his entrance riding a magnificent black stallion. At the end of the performance, it came on stage and gave a bow to the audience. When I was leaving, there was nobody waiting at the stage door for autographs but about 50 people were gathered around the horse which was being loaded into it's float for the trip home

As they say, never work with kids or animals

Sounds fantastic. Were you able to sneak in to get the toreador's signature while the rest were distracted by the horse? I guess the toreador wasn't that great, hah? Who sang Carmen?

P.S. Great to know that you love photography - and serious enough about it to use a tripod

Is this Westie? Your new avatar has a very impressionist feel to it

Carmen was performed by Catherine Carby, a young Oz soprano with a very bright future. The whole cast was very strong, although the tenor took a little while to warm up (Carmen took care of that).

I was into photography years ago but became lazy and put the SLR aside for a small and convenient automatic digital. However, the Lab bought me a good digital SLR for Xmas that is backward compatible with all my old manual lenses which have fantastic optics. I am amazed at the things I can do with this camera, paticularly when I shoot in RAW mode and then fine tune with Photoshop. I gather from your recent avatars you also have an interest in photography.

Squash

p.s Before Dave C gets excited, RAW is an uncompressed file type, not a state of undress
