All;

Being technically challenged, I thought this forum would be a good place to ask some questions that come to mind about attaching an external hard drive to my system so I can play all my tunes and video on my wireless network.

I know this was discussed somewhere, but a search for "NAS" found nothing.

I am unsure as to what I need to buy. Currently I have four computers in the house: 1 wired and three wireless. I am assuming that the external drive would have to plug into the router?

Any help would be appreciated and any suggestions as to actual drives is also good.

Thanks - Mark

Hi markstan

My original post about this is here http://www.aom3.org/forum/22414-post17.html

I can't recommend a particular drive, but if you go here http://www.dabs.com/productlist.aspx...157&PageMode=1 you can look at a wide selection and see some customer reviews. Note that some of the cheapest models don't include a hard disk.

The advantage of having one of these boxes plugged into your router is the lower power consumption compared to having an always-on PC doing the same job.

gm;

Thanks for the reminder link. I knew I had either asked or seen a post or two on the subject, but as I have seen mentioned on the forum before: the search function doesn't always work well.

Thanks also for the link to the Dabs site. I'll take a look and then do a search here in the States.

Thanks again - Mark

Anyone know of any products that I can shove loads of drives into without paying thousands of pounds for a NAS server thingy like these?

Cheaper to just keep making new PCs and networking them!
