No, I am still not buying Blu Ray (at least not until it comes down in price)
good day,

shoot me a dollar amount that you want for your hd player and movies.

i would be more than willing to take them off your hands.

take care,

A bunch of years ago, my brother jumped on the laser disc band wagon and bought a laser player and just about every movie on laser disc he could find. Now the majority of them have laser rot and are unwatchable.

I only bought my Toshiba E30 a short while back when they were cheaper ($199) and came with SEVEN free HD films, since then I have purchased another five or so new films at £5 ($10) each. I needed a new DVD player so I was happy to buy this and use it as an "upscaler" if nothing else. I find that even ordinary DVD's look better through it, so I am quite happy with it, I am not a big DVD watcher at the best of times, probably once a month at most, so for me I found it to be a suitable purchase.

P.S. Not interested in Blu Ray at all.

I think Blu Ray will have a short life span. If you look at the new technology emerging, the life spans before they are obsolete are shrinking dramatically. With Broadband speeds set to increase over the next few years and increasing convergence between PC and Entertainment Center, it may be that most people will be able to stream HD content or DL it to watch later.

Besides, there is already a working prototype of the Holographic discs that may well supercede Blu Ray. The discs hold 300 GB, but have a maximum theoretical capacity of 1.6 terabytes Click here for full article.Tapestry Media - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ps. Should this thread be moved to the Technology section?

We are looking at a HD videocamera as well with little ones on the way. Any recommendations? My wife has looked at a few, but we want to keep the price down. I've been using salescircular.com weekly.
Depends what your pricerange is? Let me know and I can probably recommend a good one.

Under $1,000 USd. However, I am going to Denmark in July possibly, so I may look there although I'm sure it is cheaper here. I think my wife wants one that she saw on The Oprah Winfrey Show. Some very small lightweight one.

I agree damo. The computer will start to become more a part of the home entertainment center. Look at what Apple tried to do with AppleTV (bombed here), but the idea was right. I want something that I can download movies to, copy stuff on (dvd-r or whatever), watch in HD on demand that I own not have to pay $3 every time I watch, it be a DirectTV satelite receiver, and it stores what I purchase on someone else's hard drive (ex cable provider) so I never have to worry about disc room. And the 2 most important things this device should do, 1) be cheap, 2) be able to watch ANY TV show from the past by the click of the button.
Now that device would be killer!

Well then, it's easy - the Canon HV20
Canon | VIXIA HV20 2.96MP CMOS HDV Camcorder | 2059B001 | B&H

That's the videocamera I have and although it's very small (it fits into my stills camera pouch) it has amazing image quality. It's a year old now so a new model, the HV30, has come out but apart from colour and slightly bigger LCD screen, there is little different difference spec wise. Believe it or not, the HV20 is used as a backup camera by some TV companies.

If you have VLC media player, check out this raw footage I shot a couple weeks ago

About buying a camera in Denmark: due to the exchange rates, a camcorder might be more expensive there. On top of that, bad idea because America and Denmark have different TV systems and frame rates so you'll have problems from the get-go.

for your hardware/tech people buying in Europe: i just went thru this with some Danish and Swedish friends of mine, we even went thru the bother of traveling the Danish/German border a few times trying to beat the system. overall, i think we did not succeed - buying online in Germany and Holland would have been cheaper.

for those of you who plan to buy in Europe, check out this online comparison database www.geizhals.at and then click on the blue EUROPE flag to compare prices in several countries.

though basically in German, it is simple to navigate, and gives you at least a good indication what to expect ... for those of you coming with those strange green things you consider money, be prepared for a shock.

and our friends from the other island, sometimes, too. the other way 'round, though.

greets - henry

PS: sorry, you have to manually fit the URL, whatever i did totally screwed up the posting, so there it is with spaces.

Thanks, Henry

I'm pretty sure that what you describe as a messed up link was due to the fact that you forgot to remove the tick next to "Automatically retrieve titles from external links" - situated below the message box (in additional options)
