Lightbulb ring tones!! - 08-01-2007, 04:23 AM

hello im really board tonight and the forums are dead. so here is a post on ring tones.

this post is for turnig you ringtone into an mp3 file.

download the free mac pc audio editor audacity.

Audacity: Free Audio Editor and Recorder
download and unzip LAME.
LAME MP3 Encoder
this software helps audacity make mp3 files.

once you have done all this you will need to do this next in Audacity
click on edit/prefrences/file formats and click on find library.
then you will need to find the Lame file you just downloaded and click it. now Audacity can make mp3s.

next you will want to use audacity to record a 10 second cut from the song.

ok now you need to delete all unwanted music that was recorded, then you can transfer or export if you will as an mp3 file.

finally, emailing mp3 file to phone.
your phones email adress i think is usually your 10 digit number@carriername.com. here is an example. 4068618787@verizon.com(that is my number if anyone cares).

on you phone, download the attachment to you phone. then you can use the ring tone program in your phone to make your attachent your new ringtone.

sorry if this makes no sense. im sure it is a waste but i thought i might try. i also know how to do this with bluetooth. if anyone is interested let me know and i will post.

thanks for your time,
chad

Chad,
I already had Audacity...just used it to edit some portions of audio books
for my player..But never considered it for Ringtones...Cool idea and then
send the file as a attachment to your phone..I never could figure that part out...lol.. I'm going to play with this tonight...excellent.

Thanks,

Nightfly

How clever. Never occurred to me to do that. I've had Madness' "Our House" midi file as my ring tone for as long as I remember having a cell phone

Can't imagine responding to any other ring. But maybe it's about time for a change!!

P.S. Just came back from Yankees stadium (playing Chicago White Sox). Yankees scored 8 home runs!!! Final score 16:3...... Obviously not a cliffhanger sort of game, but it was great fun being up on my feet much of the game cheering!

I use http://www.makeownringtone.com for the same purpose. It's free. And it's a bit less complicated than using Audacity.

If you have a Motorola phone and have that mobile phone tools software you can make your own.

I have the software and all I do is make my own ringtones & wallpapers.
