Angry router troubles - 08-20-2007, 02:10 AM

hello and good day.

i need some help with a wireless router here is my dilemma.

ok here is the deal. i have a wireless g router which i upgraded today to a wireless n. i unplugged the old router and plugged the new one in. neither of my computers recognized the new router. the problem is the new router wants me to run the setup cd in the computer that is plugged into the router. so that means it goes from the cable modem to the router to the computer upstairs. then downstairs i would be using the wireless internet. the problem is the cd drives on the cpu upstairs does not work.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
if this does not make sense let me know and ill try to explain it better.

i just dont see why i would have to run a mickymouse set up cd on the cpu upstairs that does not even use the wireless router.

thanks,
chad

If you go to localhost (192.168.X.X), is there anything you need to configure there??

There is only one words that describes your current state of affairs -- DREAMY!

Glad my THEORY has led you in a somewhat right direction. Imagine what would happen if our HEAD THEORIST was here? I can only imagine what kind of brilliant theories we could have come up with by now. I miss her already!!

yeah guess i was a bit late. Ive been fiddling around with wireless routers for ages.

You need make sure all computers are turned off when turning on the router. Then only turn on one computer, goto cmd, do

ipconfig /release (which releases all the old dns settings for the old router)
then
ipconfig /renew (grabs dns settings from new router)

and it should work, but if you got it working already, well done to you
