System from home - 08-29-2007, 07:28 AM

Hello,

I am currently starting up a business from home and wish to have a permanent business line seperate from my home phone. I believe the best idea is to have it over the PC as it is ideal for business and calls are cheap.

I currently sometimes use VoipStunt and other programs to make calls as they are free but it is not ideal. I am looking for a system where I can have a USB phone plugged in and have a telephone number whereby when people call me, it rings my pc/usb phone and I can answer the call. I would also want features such as hold and answerphone etc..

I hope you have some ideas that could help me!

Thanks

I did a little research and you need to make sure that the phone supports voip (i.e skype) and PSTN (which is the normal public analog network), it could be different depending what country you are on.

There are some good handsets on skype's shop: Skype Accessories Shop

Customer Of: Mp3Fiesta, MP3sale, Legalsounds, MusicMP3 & MM

Hi

A hardphone is a standalone sip device it does not require any further software to function.

Now depending on what you want to do, you may have to look at a IPPBX such as an asterisk based system. but initally you need to fully understand what it is you are wanting to be able to acheive

What I want to achieve is to have a telephone number and when anyone calls it from a landline/mobile or whatever it calls software on my pc (such as skype) which would be connected to a USB Voip Phone. I am more interested in being able to recieve calls then make calls. I would want an answerphone system so that when I am not online or logged in then the answer machine will come on

You cannot call a sip based phone from Skype (directly). The protocol used by the two systems is different and they cannot talk to eachother. It seems that SkypeIN numbers are forwarded to your Skype number so again they will not work to a SIP device. You may be able to forward the call to a PSTN number. Check this site for more info Voip Solution One more thing there is one new Sipprovider who is providing local number that can be used to call an online Skype users from a normal phone.
