Eastern european music? - 08-11-2007, 03:52 PM

Lately it doesn't happen very often i hear something new.
But i came across this song and want to find out more about eastern european music.

Mahalageasca (Bucovina Dub) (By Mahala Rai Bandal)

I was in Romania for some days and heard some good music there too.
But i don't know the names.

So has anybody got any suggestions?

Happy to make a large number of recommendations in Russian music. Not sure where to start though. It's a whole wide world of Rock.

great!
I Like instrumental/not much focus on singing.
Lots of different instruments/ unpredictable music.
Because it's new: start with the crossovers, a bit of traditional mixed with contemporary music.

If you give me 3 songs i'll say what i like(and what i don't like).
edit1: oops that was a bit of a mean reply, now I'm forcing you to do research for me .
edit2:I'm exploring related music, will post what i fond later.

No big deal. I'll give you some songs to pick from. Not right now though, because a tad busy today. Please stand by.

Have you seen my recommendation for Auktsion in this thread?

I think it's the poster child under "Lots of different instruments/ unpredictable music." category. By no means mainstream and accessible by everyone, but I LOVE them. Also, you needn't really know Russian to enjoy the album. They are known for picking words and phrases for their resonanse, more so than meaning. They do make some sense, but on the whole you are not missing much. You will, however, find yourself up to your neck in new original sounds, instruments, and orchestrations. Check out the article I've given in the other thread as well. This albums is definitely their best. If I were to get just the one album from them, this is the one it would be. Plus, most of the songs from this album appear on Greatest Hits anyway.

I got weird charachters too - apparently itsn't not the right encoding. I had to manually type out all the names in English letters so I could read.

In AllTunes, if you change your keyboard layout and type in Russian inside the search window, the weird characters will appear but the right artist/album would be found. If you can read Russian, your other option is to switch to Russian (via clicking on a Russian flag) and select your artist with a mouse.

Otherwise do what I do - select the songs you want into your basket via Sparks or MM, and dump them into your music folder with AllTunes. It just so happens that my PC is at the office and I am on a Mac at home - so I select all my music in the evening, and when I get in to work in the morning, my new music is waiting for me.

Yeah - I know that AllTunes works better for Russian music. However, I don't want to download music at the office. (I'm in same situation as you - Mac@home. PC@TheOffice) Big company. Big Brother... If you know what I mean.
