His contribution on the Byrds "Sweet Heart of the Rodeo" changed country

Gram showed the world that you could be a rebel and still be sensitive at the same time.

I saw Gatton with Robert Gordon great rock a billy set...Actually went to see
Gordon and got the excellent bonus of Gatton on guitar...
Also on Emusic there is a ton of rare Willie Nelson early works and 70's
material that you don't see much elsewhere.
nightfly, you have me curious about emusic. after the first free downloads, how is the pricing? is it a mine of rarities, as it seems?

It is a sight for Indie-Labels ..there is a link somewhere on the site
I'll look for it for you for 100 free downloads..it's a old link but worth
trying out..
There is a great deal of non-mainstream music there ,but of course
many great artist that you know and love in all generes..I've been
using them for years..but it suits me personally because of my diverse
musical needs. You'll have to see for your self.
the pricing works likes this after your trial 1 month of free downloads..
There is a monthly fee for a set amount of downloads:
$20 for 70 28cents per download
$15 for 40 ..you can cancel at anytime...take the free downloads and quit
if you like..they gave no DRM and the downloads are legal and of good
quality..you do not have the choice of bitrate like Sparks ..but
who does? They sound good to me.. no bootlegs but some of these small
company's get the rights to "live" material and you have to check it out with the sampler..I have found more treasures than junk though.
check out the site MP3 music download website, eMusic
I will try and find that link but they do offer a 25 free download on site.

Edit: to answer your question it does have a great deal old old rare country recordings
and many of the related singer song writers.

Edit:Edit: This is the link for 100 free downloads if you register from this Link:

I don't know about Johny Cash rarities but if you are into Waylon Jennings and Kris Kristoffeson you might like to check out the soundtrack to the movie "Ned Kelly". This came out in the 70's and caused an enormous stir in Australia because it was about one of our great folk heroes, the bushranger Ned Kelly and his gang and they had cast Mick Jagger in the title role. Having a weedy English rock star play the Oz equivalent of Jesse James was just not on and the flick was a flop here. However the soundtrack contains some country gems, mainly by Waylon with a couple of tracks by Kris. Mick sings just one song, a beatifully haunting rendition of the folk song "The Wild Colonial Boy" complete with Irish accent. It's not on Sparks but you can find it on mp3sales.ru

squash, "ned kelly" was a flop in mick's parents' parlor. but thanks, i'll check out the soundtrack. whom would you cast in a remake? paul hogan's too old; think russell crowe would rally to his home colors to honor the legend? i don't know much about australian cinema, just yahoo serious, paul hogan and mr. crowe, but i agree-- ned kelly is a figure worthy of more gravity.

It could have been worse - Mick's then girlfriend, Marianne Faithfull, was originally cast to play opposite him but had to go into rehab after a drug overdose. (I hasten to add that her "Broken English" album is a personal favorite.)
They did a remake in 2003 with Heath Ledger in the title role and Geoffrey Rush and Naomi Watts supporting.
P.S. He's 'our Russ' as The Gladiator - He's 'New Zealand's Russ' when he throws phones at hotel clerks
P.P.S. The world's first feature-length film was made in Australia in 1906 about, you guessed it - Ned Kelly

squash, i googled ned kelly in your honor, and i'm floored. he became mythic in death much more than in life. the deeds attributed to him even in the great war make him an uber-legend. and i agree, ms. faithfull would not have enhanced the flick. nice trick invoking mr. crowe's offshore pedigree when he misbehaves.

Getting back to your question about Johnny Cash rarities, there is a song on an album in my vinyl collection in which JC makes a cameo appearance and which might be something that would be of interest. It is track 13 on Shel Silverstein's infamous "Freakin at the Freakers Ball" and is available on Sparks. The song is called 'A Front Row Seat to Hear Ole Johnny Sing'. Shel wrote some outrageous and funny songs including 'You Can Leave Your Hat On' recorded first by Randy Newman and then Joe Cocker, who had an international hit with it.

(I will probably get death threats for making this recommend)

LOL ...talk about rarities...that's as esoteric as they come...

Question: is he the same Shel Silverstein that wrote childrens books..
I used to read a book called "The Giving Tree" by a author with the
same name, to my daughter when she was young. It was one of her favorites.
