I just want to point out that in my country it is still perfectly legal for me to buy from you guys - even if IFPI makes it perfectly clear that it shouldn't be. They tell it so often that most people believe that it actually is illegal

And even if it was illegal, I would probably keep using these sites until the music industry came up with a business model, where all tracks were DRM-free (and in a perfect world one could also chose file format and bit rate - and the tracks would be reasonably prised).

I don't know what the right English wordings for that would be - but a kind of civil disobedience, until the music industry chooses to listen to their customers.

thanks, this is the point I'm trying to make. In some countries this service is illegal in some it's not, we all know this. But still you have people from countries like US buying...in other words most of the people don't care. If you give someone something cheaper or even for free and no way he'll face any consequences 99% of people will take/use this opportunity.

In this you can be an idiot and buy song for $.99 or buy it cheaper and make them idiots for selling for this price.

If you ask me price per song should be somewhere between $.30-.40 and everyone would be happy...this way we have to fight all the time

This is the price per song at eMusic.

But I think it's not a matter of price (only). As Solaris says, it's also DRM-free, be able to choose bitrate...

There is only one thing that I don't agree with some of you: albums available before its "official" release date. I think this is walking on thin ice, if we have into account that the industry, the IFPI, the RIAA, all of this vultures... are searching for any excuse to put an end to you.

Please, Seva, don't take this as criticism, it's just an opinion. I totally respect your business model and your decisions about it (of course!). And me, as a customer, I'm free to decide if I want to download an album before its release date, or simply if I want to download something...

Greetings!

well I did only mention price as I think there is no need to talk about DRM all the time, years ago people agreed DRM protection is crap and that no one likes it. But even if you have DRM-free for $.99 you'll still think twice where you'll buy...I'm just saying prices are too high, that's all. DRM-free music is "must be" no matter the price.

About prereleases and thin Ice, trust me it cant get thiner than it is. They want all sites down from the internet no matter what you sell, if you sell albums 50 years old ripped from LPs they will still bother you, this is the truth.
If I read correctly ROMS and few other sites even offered to pay them great part of the profit and this also resulted negative response, this tells you all...

we'll continue to put as much new music as we can get (regardless if it's prerelease or no) and as you said it is up to customers if they will buy it or now...this is fair I think.

because they have people inside all those record labels who sometimes sell or sometimes give it for free particular album when it's finished and ready to ship to stores or wherever...

this is not a secret or mystery...they have their own people doing this to them

Yes ...Seva next week I am getting a advance copy of the new Springsteen
from a relative who's a writer...But I am still going to get it from you for
a buck and will have a fresh copy before the release date as well...
Your's right now because I'm like a kid who can't wait and I'm sure it's a good quality, and it's for my player and the CD for my car and home...
But where does the CD come from ?
Everyone knows, but they ask anyways ...IT's A Promo Copy sent out by
the record company hurting their own pre-record sales...If you went down to a Manhattan used CD store, you would probably find a copy right now for
$12 and that customer will make copies and so on and so on..
This has been going on for years since I was a record Dealer in 1978
with Vinyl ..I would get a advance promo copy LP and make a cassette copy
like Born in the USA for all my friends in a lesser quality format ..
What has changed ? .... nothing.
But yes now in modern times we have a few more options but the
business has remained the same...time for a change...no?

Sorry Bruce I love ya..but this is the way of the world and you
seem no less for the wear.

Edit: by the way my specialty as a record dealer in 1978?...Promo Items.
and where did I purchase these items? - Record Industry insiders and execs.
