Can't wait for the new album - I Love ' Violet Hill ' and ' Viva La Vida ' - both outstanding tracks.....from an outstanding band.

Can anyone help me with this ?

I downloaded an album from Coldplay called ' Castles ' from Legal Sounds recently - it has 15 tracks - four of which are ' live'...none of which I recognise, possessing all of their previous 3 albums
Songs include - ' Crest of Waves ', ' One I Love ', ' Gold in Them Hills ' ' I Ran Away ', ' For You ' and ' Bigger Stronger '.....
It's obviously an ' un-official release '...
Where do the songs come from - are they B - sides ?
It's very good anyway.

Hi Petra,

I have wondered about this too - I also noticed it a while back, but haven`t got around to downloading it yet.
I have never seen this in any shops or on official release, so like you say, it`s probably an "unofficial" release.
Will have to take a listen to it.
Thanks for letting us know about it

Hi Starcat and Solaris !

Thanks for the link - but at present its down due to maintenance- but will try again later !

I did some research into the above songs on ' Castles ' - and managed to find that ' Crest of a Knave ' was released as part of an E.P.
But - the other songs ?
No idea where they came from - but they are good....
'The One I Love ' almost sounds familiar......?

At present - it seems that only Soundsbox have the new, official Coldplay album, of the sites I visit.....
Legal Sounds, which is now my regular site haven't got it yet....
Maybe MP3Sale will be showing it tomorrow when they return from several days of maintenance to their servers ?
Hope so !

On that webpage that Solaris shared, some people went as far as to say that that compilation of B-sides is better than "X&Y". And I thought "X&Y" was THE perfect album. I'll definitely have to get my hands on this "Castles" thing.

Yes ' Castles ' is good - and if you're a fan of Coldplay, I think it's worth having !
Re ' X and Y ' - I just can't understand the flak it took from so many people.
I agree - it is a ' Perfect Album ' - in many ways....

I can't believe the negative vibe against Coldplay and Chris Martin in particular these days - especially in some quarters of the musical press and message boards in the UK....

Guess it must be the near - inevitable, sadly, in the UK at least, and not a feature or trait associated with successful artistes in the States - or other countries I wonder ?¿ - ' Tall Poppies Syndrome ' ?

I agree. I think Coldplays problem was the first album Parachutes was so good that they just felt the 'press reviewers' backlash; which might have been a little relevant for A Rush Of Blood To The Head (still a decent album) but was completely unjustified for X & Y, which was every bit as good as the first. Not tried the new one yet, will give it a try later in the week.

Hi Petra

You are right - it seems to be fashionable now to knock Coldplay, and to criticize and find fault with anything they release.
There was an article in the Daily Mail on Friday about how they are destroying music and other such rubbish, come on, give them a break.
As you so rightly point out, the press in the UK build people up, be they musicians, sports stars, celebrities, or whatever, and then they do their best to knock them down again if they get too successful.
What is that all about?

Thumbs up Coldplay Goes 'Double Double' - 06-26-2008, 01:34 AM

And now they have done a 'Beatles' scoring a 'Double Double' i.e. being number one in BOTH The UK and The US and in BOTH the singles and albums chart - all four simultaneously

Coldplay reach No1 in UK and US singles and album charts | The Sun |HomePage|Showbiz|Bizarre

So congratulations to Coldplay and a big middle finger to their critics
