Smile Hello everybody! Newbie here... - 10-08-2007, 07:55 PM

Hello all,

I used to be a Allofmp3 member. I really loved that site and sorry to see it go away

Soundsbox sounds really promising and in some ways similar to allofmp3.com I'm just concerned about the reliablility and confidence in downloading music without having to worry about our downloading records being sent to the RIAA or other authorities. Can I download as many songs/albums as I want without having to worry about getting caught with illegal music/mp3's and having to pay a hefty fine like that woman "Jammie Thomas" in Minn. who had to pay $220,000?

thanks in advance!

Hi user242 and welcome to the forum

Here in Scandinavia these Russian/Ukrainian online music stores are perfectly legal to use and even if it's illegal in the country where you come from, there has never been only single case again people merely downloading copyrighted music from the internet - only against uploaders of copyright protected material.

Besides that you can be perfectly sure that none of these sites would rat out their customers. They wouldn't shoot themselves in their own foot like the RIAA tends to do

In my book SoundsBox is now the best of all these Russian/Ukrainian stores

Hi user242 & welcome to the forum,
I am sure someone else will be able to answer your questions about the reliability of Soundsbox, but just wanted to say that allofmp3 has not really gone away, it has just changed it's name (mp3sparks). As for the legality, it is all a bit of a Grey area (what Jammie Thomas did was p2p, which I am pretty sure is illegal). As far as I am concerned, using these Russian web-sites is not illegal, but it really depends on your view point. The way I see it is if they were illegal, there would be lots of cases of people being prosecuted by the RIAA. As there aren't, it must be legal,
Cheers,
Dave C

Welcome user242,

I am in the US. SoundsBox is not a p2p site ..sharing of files..At a Ru. site you purchase a file as long as you keep it as your personal property it is yours...If you want to sell that property again ..that is illegal. The RIAA is going after the site owners(very unfortunately..) and not the citizens because obviously they don't have any legal recourse.Because as you see,
if they could they would.
I use these sites because I believe in their right
to exist ,and they bring music to the global masses at a fair price with no drm and have very high standards.I say this from experience.
But if you are not comfortable, you should not do anything you are
uncomfortable with. The choice is ultimately Yours alone.

I use Soundsbox often it is a very safe and good site with great
music and high standards.
