another question, are you using p2p network to add albums in your catalogue like others mp3 websites ? or are you buying the albums (i don't think so, why in that case there are not always the same encoding...)

Wren
we do not use p2p network and personally I think this is simple BS at this moment. Before it was ok but now too much viruses and fake stuff. I don't even bother to look there any more.

We don't buy albums, you're right about that but we get them from people who buy them. we have few sources for music and pay them all in bulk.

As for the quality we'll upload only 256 and above from now on...no more 192 or 160kbps.

I'll be little rude now because you have no right at all to compare soundsbox to any site especially not sparks or allofmp3. Site exists some 2 weeks now! We'll try to improve quality and will not lower prices. And I'll tell you one very good reason why we are better than allofmp3, mp3sparks and all tunes - on soundsbox you can deposit money and download music...can you do this on allofmp3?!

I'm really sorry about those sites they are icons in this business but some of you guys just don't get it. Why don't you give me at least one million $ and you'll see the quality of everything on soundsbox, don't even have to mention millions allofmp3 made!

Just think about it

Seva
Dear Seva,

I think it is a bit ungracious of you to ask for our thoughts on your "Voucher Giveaway" thread, then when you get them on here, start moaning about us not getting it. I was being honest when I stated what I think about your business, it is a cut throat business you are in and if you listened more to some of the people on this forum, give them what they want, I am sure you will become a millionaire. Failing that, don't ask for our opinion if you are easily offended!
P.S. None of us on here have any axes to grind, we just want the best sound at the cheapest price, who ever does that will win?

Regards Chris

you are right, but you guys can put it what you want in nicer way sometimes

I'm aware of problems and we are fixing one by one every day.
In just short period of time you'll see how much all will be improved...We'll upload only high quality samples and even start to replace ones that are already on the server with better ones...

But again being too good is also dangerous in this business....what do you think what killed allofmp3 and sparks..they were just too good and this cost them existence.

I'm still pretty impressed by SoundsBox (being an upstart and all) and let's see if they improve even further the next weeks and months

Give them enough time (and success) and maybe they will be a real competitor to MP3Sparks/allTunes/MemphisMember one day

Questions about your service - 07-09-2007, 04:05 PM

Hi Seva,
I have just created an account on the basis of a choice of file formats being available. In fact I have just sent an email from within the site seeking clarification on how to do this. My default file format choice is Ogg Vorbis Q8. It is only after reading this thread I discover my reason for creating the account is not valid.
I didn't realise, on the other hand, how young your site is, so maybe we shouldn't be too harsh, but I do have to agree with archon & chris7.
It is early days yet but on examination of only one track from a 2006 CD, your file size, for a 4 minute 03 second track, is quoted as 4MB which, according to my calculations, is approximately 135kbps. On most of the other 'lesser' sites it is 5.57MB when purporting the bit rate to be 192 kbps. The AllTunes file size for the same track, also nominally at 192 kbps, is 5.70 MB and it is OEEX sourced. Your download appears to be well below the 160 kbps minimum you quoted.
As has been stated elsewhere, perception of coding artefacts is a very personal thing. I prefer to buy my music at a quality level where I cannot hear any degradation and then go one increment better to be on the safe side. Your comments about what is good, and not good, are personal to you and there is nothing wrong with that. However it would be wise to offer what a significant minority want - the choice of audio quality. 'The customer is always right' comes to mind.
I wish you every success and hope you will take regard of these criticisms in the helpful manner intended.

If you wish to check out what you are getting for your money on this site or any other site you can use this bitrate checker, just put in the file size and length, and it tells you straightaway.:-

Hi chris7.

Thank you for that link.

I have a few files, I want to test with this bitrate calculator.

They are from another site than seva's by the way

If everybody on this forum used the Bitrate Checker from time to time on all sites, perhaps we could publish a name and shame list if quoted bitrates are not up to spec?

Regards to All.
