Sound quality? - 02-06-2008, 07:09 PM

Hi,

I have yet to join Soundsbox and was wondering if someone can enlighten me as to the options of encoding offered? If someone who runs Soundsbox is watching do you upload the albums as WAV files and then encode them as they are being downloaded? Of are they just uploaded at a standard poor quality rate like 192kbps AAC?

Just saw on rutunes that the tracks have a maximum of 192kbps. Pretty poor if you ask me. Do any of the other sites have better bit rates?

On Millisong, everything is 320kbps and the sound is good - but their catalogue is a bit limited.

A significant number of albums on Soundsbox are 192VBR but if there is such a thing they sound like good 192VBR albums. However there are also 256 Constant, 256 VBR & 320 constant. Bit of a lucky dip really, but for portable devices & mid end Hi-fi the 192VBR's sound OK.

If bit rate is seriously important to you then try out Millisong as Gaucho suggested. Only point about Millisong is they tend to take quite a long time to add the new stuff

And where did you see this exactly?

We have files from 160 to 320kbps... 192 is not maximum

Sorry carleast.... but average is not the same as maximum.
Please be careful when quoting and making comments.....

I am a member of Soundsbox and their encoding of Vbr files
are of very high quality and sounds great on my Mp3player and
my portable CD player.
and if you're interested in music, their new arrivals in my opinion
are among the Best.

I've been using Millisong since my last mp3sparks payment finished and I'm very impressed. All 320kbps mp3, a wide selection - plenty of Jazz as well.

I've run a few Millisong downloads through a FFT Spectrum Analysis and they seem to be genuine 320kbps rips with no evidence of having been re-sampled from lower rate rips.

So far, I'm very impressed with them

The two above posts make absolutely no sense to me

Did I miss something?
