With AllOfMP3 gone and MP3sparks reeling, RIAA drops lawsuit -

A much more researched, informative and interesting article on the dropped lawsuit against allofmp3.
Quote:
The decision to pull the plug on the case now was largely a function of the court's briefing schedule, the RIAA tells Ars. Over the course of the litigation, it came out that MediaServices had liquidated itself and no longer exists as a legal entity, rendering the suit rather pointless. While some blogosphere coverage has lampooned the RIAA for dropping the case and declaring victory even as the AllOfMP3 site simply shifted domains to MP3sparks.com, the RIAA tells us that the newer site has "been on our radar screen" for some time.

Typical RIAA intimidation. Which, when you think about it, won't work.
Look, comparatively few people know about MP3Sparks, right? If the RIAA sues Sparks, the news media is going to tell everyone how Sparks came to be, and that they were in business even while the RIAA was suing AllofMP3. The last thing that the RIAA wants is for the general public to find out that their "victory" over AllofMP3 of a few days ago was no victory at all!
Plus, the suit against AllofMP3 has caused the proliferation and prospering of all these other Russian/Ukrainian music-download sites. The RIAA can do nothing against them at all.
The RIAA spent all that money on lawyers, and lost. Fortunately for them, the Mainstream Media is lazy and corporate-controlled, and so won't tell us the truth.
I wonder if the RIAA will hang up a "Mission Accomplished" banner?
The publicity of the lawsuit also brought allofmp3 to the attention of many, and many left the filesharing sites like KaZaa to join allofmp3 instead because they preferred to pay to get the music legally in good quality and at a sensible price.
It is just the greed of the record companies who refuse to collect the money due them on principle.
