Angry Another North American ISP besides Comcast throttles Internet traffic - 11-05-2007, 11:17 PM

Canadian ISP admits to throttling P2P:

Quote:
In response to consumer complaints posted in the company's official forum, Canadian ISP Bell Sympatico has admitted that it uses bandwidth throttling technologies to impose limitations on peer-to-peer (P2P) file-sharing during peak hours. This revelation is further evidence that net neutrality - the principle of equal treatment for all traffic through a network - is eroding.

If this is made up, then it's probably not far from the truth

Yes solaris even if not real..it is a scary look into the very near
future..
When ever any Big Corp(or small Business) offers you a Free Toolbar for your convience...all members should run..they are nothing more
than tracking methods and marketing tools, offering the user very little.

If you find you're provider is on solaris's list..maybe you should switch your
provider...but my instinct tells me, many are doing this and are
not being forthright about it.
We should look for a list of top providers given by a neutral source.

Here is a article stating that the FCC here in the states is filing
a claim against Comcast. And Verizon and ATT might be doing the same
thing as comcast:

Lightbulb The War Against BitTorrent: Attack of the ISPs - 11-07-2007, 04:14 PM

Quote:
There has been a lot of fuss lately about Comcast’s efforts to throttle and interfere with BitTorrent traffic, but they are by no means the only ISP involved in such efforts. Hundreds of larger and smaller ISPs all around the world try to limit BitTorrent traffic on their networks, time to give an overview, the war is on.

Thumbs up An Imminent Victory For ‘Net Neutrality’ Advocates - 07-12-2008, 05:37 PM

Quote:
When Comcast admitted last fall that it was blocking - or slowing down, as the company preferred to call it - certain file transfers by customers, a lot of people complained that the company was unfairly discriminating against heavy Internet users.

Now it seems that the Federal Communications Commission is poised to agree.

The Associated Press reported late Thursday that the F.C.C.’s chairman, Kevin J. Martin, has concluded that Comcast improperly blocked some file transfers.

Mr. Martin told the A.P. he would recommend that the commission punish Comcast, and order it to stop the blocking, tell the commission how and how often it blocked file transfers and disclose to consumers its future plans for managing its network.

(UPDATE: At a news conference Friday, Mr. Martin said he would seek no fine, but only a change in Comcast’s practices.)

Thanks for posting that, solaris.

Good to see that something is finally being done about this.
For too long ISP's have got away with throttling and slowing down the connections of those customers who do a lot of downloading.
