Apple's digital music showdown - 10-02-2008, 03:42 AM

A ruling this week could force online music sellers to pay publishers more money - as an Apple threat to close iTunes looms.

Quote:

NEW YORK (Fortune) -- For five years, Apple's iTunes Music Store has been the Internet's most successful music store. But as music publishers have sought a higher share of its proceeds, Apple has threatened to shutter iTunes.

.....

"If the [iTunes music store] was forced to absorb any increase in the ... royalty rate, the result would be to significantly increase the likelihood of the store operating at a financial loss - which is no alternative at all," Cue wrote. "Apple has repeatedly made it clear that it is in this business to make money, and most likely would not continue to operate [the iTunes music store] if it were no longer possible to do so profitably."

They can also simultaneously close the iPod, iPhone and all the other things that start with an "i".

It certainly would close iDRM and ALL other DRM

I wish!

So, they are sort of iDoomed to operate forever, aren't they? Even at a loss?

Looks as if it has all been settled amicably.

If you have one watch you know what the time is. But if you have two you don't know which one is right.

The more advice you get the more confusing it becomes.
