News.com reports that a new bill in the House, inserted into a huge spending bill for higher education, would not only require universities to install anti-piracy deterrent technology but also require them to pay for monthly subscription fees to Ruckus and Napster.

Absolutely insane. So glad I attended university at the height of the college network music sharing times and Napster (the first incarnation!) boom.

Our country would be better served if our politicians spent more time concerning themselves with things such as education in our schools and less time with the interests of the music lobby. The major labels have created this bed and now must lie in it (preferably without the bailout of our government.)

Hello etherbunny,

Good to see you back on the forum!

And I couldn't agree more.
