I agree I've heard it..Queen is a rocking band and Brian May is always
a brilliant guitarist. He can say something in a 30 sec. to a min. solo that
others need 5mins or more..Glover does a decent job.It's fun but it's
not Queen. But I agree with you I was surpized at the enjoyment level
that I didn't expect.

So I went overboard saying "I'll pass".. I just meant it's not Queen.

Also Todd Rundgren takes the place of Rick Ocasek in a live Cars
album 2007 and he does a dam good job.

Evening Nightfly, how are you today?

I think this is what most people feel, when the line-up changes is is not the same band.
Sometimes the result is a disaster but sometimes the outcome is not that bad, as with Queen and Paul Rogers.

I was pleased to see Cream got together again for a few concerts a few years back but it would never have worked to take it on tour - their hearts would not have been in it.

I think most people who remember the original line-up are usually disappointed when a new faces are brought in to fill the gaps - as you say Robert Plant was Led Zepplin.
Must confess I haven't heard the Queen with Paul Rodgers album yet - I was put off by the bad reviews. But I must be one of the few people who think that line-up sounds like an improvement. I really liked Free and Bad Company.

The Cream reunion a few years ago was something I looked forward to but I was quite shocked when I saw them on stage. Clapton looked OK but Bruce and Baker looked frighteningly old. I know it shouldn't matter but it really put me off (although Baker always did look like Albert Steptoe, even when he was young).

Age and what you look, like shouldn't matter when we are talking about
masters of their genre and instruments...Cream looked and played fine
to me.I was glad that were alive and sounding so good. These things must be put in proper perspective.

And are you saying that R. Glover would sing better than one of the
greatest rock singers Freddie Mercury???? I don't think you liked Queen
very much..which is cool.

Unfortunately they are old - time takes it toll I'm afraid.
It's amazing that Clapton does look that good seeing what he has been through with drugs and booze in his life.

No, I'm saying Paul Rodgers sounds like a better bet than Freddie to me. I didn't know about the Roger Glover option.

I do agree with you about Cream - I have the concert on DVD. But their great age did put me off, even though I didn't want to feel that way. Mind you, when Floyd got together I didn't find it off-putting - it was a novelty being able to see them at all at a concert.

Sorry Nightfly.

I thought I had replied to this, but my post seems have disappeared into thin air.

Glad to hear all is OK.

Sorry I misunderstood...Your Roger and Mercury equation...

Yes Floyd was very exciting and I thought they looked well
for older gentlemen.

Speaking of Queen, this may sound insane - and I have been known to hallucinate - but many years ago I'm sure I saw Brian May playing at a concert on TV backing . . . Rick Astley! But even stranger, I remember it being quite good. Rick Astley had quite a soulful voice and, of course, Brian May is always excellent. Can it really have happened - or was it those funny buns my auntie sent me from the Netherlands?
