Led Zep to tour again - sans Plant - 10-28-2008, 04:22 AM

From BBC News:
Quote:
Rock legends Led Zeppelin are planning to tour and record but without frontman Robert Plant.

Bassist John Paul Jones told BBC Radio Devon that a new singer was being sought after Plant ruled himself out.

The last time the band performed together was at the O2 arena in London in December 2007.

Speculation has since been rife that the surviving members of the band, with Jason Bonham, son of their late drummer John Bonham, would go back on the road.

He seemed rather laid back and happy now hanging out around Nashville, and he said he wants to make another record with Alison Krauss and T-bone Burnett. We can only hope....

I heard that Steve Tyler of Aerosmith was taking the Plant role. Ridiculous.

Maybe they could get the lead singer from Tesla. Have you ever heard their cover of "The Ocean"? It rocks.

No, I'll give it a listen. But Robert Plant IS the sound of Led Zep, so I don't see how they can exist without him.

This is always the problem when these super-groups from the sixties and early seventies get together again.
The original members are now of an age where they really can't be bothered with the hassle of touring, or have gone on to do other things.

I was pleased to see Cream got together again for a few concerts a few years back but it would never have worked to take it on tour - their hearts would not have been in it.

I think most people who remember the original line-up are usually disappointed when a new faces are brought in to fill the gaps - as you say Robert Plant was Led Zepplin.

Zep warned off 'pointless' tour - 10-28-2008, 07:56 PM

It would appear that their promoter from the 70s, Harvey Goldsmith, has warned then off touring as Led Zepplin.

Full story here.

Without Plant It's not Led Zepplin....I'd Be interested only to hear if
Plant has some chops left.

It's like Glover with Queen....I'll Pass!

Hi Lord Fly. I know what you mean but Paul Rodgers with Queen is remarkably likeable. Admittedly if only the voice of Freddie is acceptable then he's not a patch but if good rocking with May's guitar and a strong lead vocal turns you on then it's not half bad

Very true.
No one could replace Freddie but Paul has a good voice and I would rather see him fronting 'Queen' than George Michael - who a lot of people though would get the job.
