Hi Ashleyj

It's not so much the version of your software, more what's being sent as the HTTP_ACCEPT_LANGUAGE string by your browser - Tools>Options>Advanced>Languages in FF - you can see what you are sending here: http://whatsmyuseragent.com/

gm

EDIT: But I just tried it and that's not the cause of the problem I can only access MTV through a proxy, so it looks like IP blocking after all, just not very well tuned yet.

Thanks for that GM - at least I know I'm not going mad!

>> it looks like IP blocking after all

would that mean the mssg he sees then actually is a fake? if it is ip blocking, it wouldnt
be MTV that gives any mssg, no? since they are not blocking, they wouldnt even HAVE
such a mssg on their side.

greets - henry

I am fairly certain now that it is IP blocking as without Tor enabled I get the copyright message but with Tor I don't but because the Tor network is so slow it is taking an age to load.

I think I will just give up on this.

Hi Ashleyj

I tried for a while with Tor and got that blank screen, then I tried with JAP (German) and got a video with no problems. Though I'm disappointed by the picture quality; it's no better than YouTube. Somehow I expected more from MTV

Never heard of JAP but if, as you say, the quality is no better than YouTube then I don't think I'll bother.

Thanks GM.

MTV Bleeps File Sharing Software Out Of Music Videos

from the you-can't-make-this-stuff-up dept

Reader Matthew Muro writes in to let us know of a rather insane bit of news. MTV's new video hosting site is apparently bleeping out the names of file sharing sites in Weird Al Yankovic's famous 2006 song "Don't Download This Song." The opening verse to the song goes as follows:

Once in a while maybe you will feel the urge
To break international copyright law
By downloading MP3s from file-sharing sites
Like Morpheus or Grokster or Limewire or KaZaA

Yet, in that new MTV version, the last line is "Like *BLEEP* or *BLEEP* or *BLEEP* or *BLEEP*" rather than naming the four file sharing programs.
