Seven online music retailers have teamed up with the Entertainment Retailers Association (ERA) to form a new logo that signifies that the music sold on those sites is in MP3 format and compatible with every music player on the market. The goal of the logo is to offer participating music resellers a way to assure the public that what they're buying will work with their gadgets, while also telling customers that they're buying legally-licensed music from a real retailer.
The seven sites involved in the logo-development process were 7digital.com, Digitalstores.co.uk, HMV.com, Play.com, Tescodigital.com, Tunetribe.com, and Woolworthsdownload.co.uk—all primarily UK-based music retailers. A full list of licensed retailers that are currently using the logo is posted to the ERA's website
