Radiohead Blasted By Veteran Rockers KISS For Giving Their Music Away For Free - 06-18-2008, 12:15 AM

Bassist Gene Simmons says the British rockers – who gave fans the choice to download last year's album 'In Rainbows' for free or pay a sum of their choosing - says their decision is contributing to the demise of the record industry and insists his band would never follow suit.

I can't really take a money/coperation-minded band like KISS seriously when compared to the greatly talented Radiohead. So my point being, I wasn't really surprised KISS came up with this sh*t.

KISS is/was nothing more than a aging boy band with stupid props and ridiculous make up -- no talent bums -- all of them, Especially Simmons. True musical talent doesn't need on-stage explosions and inane costumes.

Exactly, I always thought KISS was very gimmicky and if you've ever seen Gene Simmons goings-on (Family Jewels) 60% of the show is about him coming up with another business opportunity.

Getting it for free would be about the only way I'd ever end up with any Kiss music on my hard drive

I noticed that when the "In Rainbows" CD went on sale it was number 1 on the charts for many weeks. I hope not too many bands missed that. Kiss apparently did.

I think that's just fully depend on the song authors and the singers. We cannot say that KISS is bad or Radiohead is stupid. They are coming from different decade and that's why they have different opinion. For me, what Radiohead do is a kind of appreciation to their fans. And if KISS choose not to follow it, that's their right to decide.

I don't think it's that simple Diana. KISS and Gene Simmons in particular are in love with money, it is one of the main themes of his show. Giving anything away for free is going to be against what he believes in. Yes, in a sense it is an opinion but in another sense it makes them more in tune with the fans that pay more money instead of the fans that appreciate the art of music making. When a CD costs $15 and you don't even have the right to copy the thing you bought to your own computer or mp3 player; that is ridiculous. Giving away some (not all) of their music for free shows that Radiohead cares more about the artistical aspect than the money.
