That sounds analogous to something the movie industry did recently. They were complaining that the video game industry was taking money away from them by premiering new games on Fridays thereby the gamers would stay at home to play the games instead of watching movies.

Apparently they are not staying away to watch the soccer - they are afraid of the hoards of fans roaming the city centre
