Talking Spammers target P2P users with fake infringement notices - 09-09-2008, 06:51 PM

"...[M]alware authors are now sending false e-mails that purport to be from Media Defender, and claim to contain hard evidence that an individual has stolen content online. Anyone attempting to view the `evidence' ends up installing malware—a variation on the Mytob worm, to be precise—on his own system."

Would somebody explain the point of this? Aren't these victims using P2P because they're poor? So this seems like performing armed robbery on homeless guys -- easy to do, but you won't gain much from it.

Some of them might actually pay this extortion money, so the cyber-criminals (this being The RIAA or someone else ) ARE doing this for a reason

This kind of bullying practice made by the media industry has now been stopped in Denmark via an epoch-making decision in the Eastern Regional High Court on Friday - more on this here:

Think this is being a bit of a Naďve. Although I am sure that there are many people out there who use P2P because they can not afford to pay for the downloads or afford to buy the CDs, many just chose to use P2P because it is free and easy. I remember back in the days when I used to work behind a bar, the worse tippers were always the rich people in the suits,
