Tanya Andersen goes after RIAA again - 03-15-2008, 01:50 PM

Tanya Andersen has filed another lawsuit against RIAA.

Here's an interesting article about the whole thing:
Lawsuit Could Force RIAA to Reveal Secrets | Listening Post from Wired.com

As of yesterday she filed another lawsuit against RIAA. Unfortunately I have just found a german source for this but english articles should also be out there:
heise online - Erneute Klage gegen die US-Musikindustrie

Shortened & Rough Translation:
The lawsuit also contains accusations against former RIAA company "MediaSentry". According to Lybeck (Andersens attorney) MediaSentry is collecting files off of the harddisks of private persons without their consent.

Lybeck further criticizes the "dragnet tactics" of RIAA which would also "catch" innocent people like Andersen. A successful trial could stop the massive amount of lawsuits filed by the Music Industry.

Andersen allowed RIAA in 2005 to search her private harddisk. The investigators were unable to prove that illegaly downloaded files were on the harddisk. Instead of dropping the claim RIAA suggested that Andersen had used a different PC. RIAA also went as far as calling Andersens 8 year old daughter at school to summon her as a witness for the trial.

Ray Beckerman - 03-15-2008, 04:03 PM

We often see the name of copyright attorney Ray Beckerman in these stories. For anyone who wants to keep abreast of the RIAA lawsuits, he has a fascinating and informative blog at http://recordingindustryvspeople.blogspot.com . It has a comprehensive links section including "Liberated Music: Links to non-RIAA legal music download information". He is also a frequent contributor elsewhere, including Slashdot http://slashdot.org/ , where he posts under the name New York Country Lawyer.
