Post US Senate Passes Intellectual Property Bill - 09-27-2008, 01:44 AM

Here's Senator Leahy's summary of the bill.

From Leahy's summary, it looks like the bill is mainly going after DVD bootleggers/smugglers and guys importing fake Prada purses. I don't see anything that we in the USA who buy music from Russian music-download sites need to worry about.

Tom, before I comment on this, I want to be absolutely sure that you are not being ironic and/or sarcastic both in your thread title and in the quote above...

You DO know that this bill is a part of the US/EU ACTA, right?

You DID read this, right? http://www.aom3.org/forum/47341-post1.html

I very much doubt the irony, given the subject name of this thread...

maxim, are you joking about 'rumours' ?

see my post #5 here, plus the many others around it.

>> http://www.aom3.org/forum/f5/things-...html#post41494 (Things can only get better)

but there is another rumour i am worried about: '' ... why should you upgrade it? simple. you will be able
to download somewhat more than 30 000 movie files, and ALL FOR FREE. this will cost you nothing ... ''

tested it, many times. 2 out of 35-40 i tried worked. and the 2 were music clips, not even movies.

greets - henry

ACTA is a proposed treaty, still being negotiated (in secret). ACTA has not yet been presented to the Senate, and the Senate has not yet ratified it. This Senate bill is not ACTA, though it covers similar subject matter, so relax. The tipoff is that the US House of Representatives has already passed a version of this bill that Leahy sponsored -- whereas the USHR is totally bypassed for treaties.

The thing about ACTA is, Bushie wants to get it negotiated, presented to the Senate, and ratified by the Senate before he leaves office. I don't think that's gonna happen, myself, unless Obama is a total ACTA pansy.

Tom, ALL these intellectual property rights bills might have different names but for the RIAA they have just ONE purpose: To be able to bypass the legal rights of you and I

The ACTA proposal is the EPITOME of all the disgusting behaviour the Music/Movie MAFIAA and their lobbyists have EVER done (which says A LOT): Convincing the governments of the otherwise civilized western world to create and effectuate law(s) that bypass the rights of the consumers WITHOUT inviting any organisations that represent the rights of the consumers, to these negotiations

If this hadn't leaked in the late spring, then we wouldn't have heard about ACTA until it was effectuated
