Talking Virgin Digital Goes Under - 09-24-2007, 07:38 PM

Virgin has closed Virgin Digital, its Windows Media-based alternative to Apple's iTunes. It stopped selling one-off downloads on Friday, though subscribers will still have access to their collections until their next monthly payment is due.

You can find some really healthy arguments why you shouldn't use DRM infected stores in the first place here in these comments: Comments on ‘Virgin unplugs music download service’ | Reg Hardware

It's not the DRM. The average user doesn't even know what DRM is.

It's the price. Everbody recognizes overpricing.

HaMuse,

I am in agreement with solaris ... Price is a factor yes, but if Itunes
had download for 40cents and the Russian sites had the music
with no DRM for 50cents ....We would go to the Russian sites, where you pay for the music and you own the music ...just like every other product out there that you pay for.
For us this is not about getting "cheap" or free music..We want
music with NO DRM that is also high quality at a fair price...Who
ever gives that to us ...is the winner.
That is why we support all the sites out there who give that
to the masses and any Band or Record Label that wants to share
their music with the masses we are interested in supporting them as well.
I also support ways of recycling the music and having the artists getting paid
like nuTsie and Radio stations like Pandora in the US and Lastfm in Europe.
I also support sites like Emusic where everyone makes out..the small
artists get a piece of change, no drm and fair prices to the masses on
a Global scale.
