Whilst the iPhone is probably a great device over here in the UK it is just far too expensive.

Unfortunately it seems with some American companies (especially Adobe, where it is actually cheaper to buy a return flight to the US to purchase a copy of Photoshop than buy it here in the UK!) they adopt the principle of $-£ conversion where something that costs $100 becomes £100. When the exchange rate was 2:1 you can see we were expected to pay twice what you do. I know the rate has fallen dramatically over the past few months but it is still not a fair conversion.

And as GHERDEZ says it is also that they lock you into a particular carrier so there can be no competition with the price of airtime.

Got music in my home and music in my car; I'm right.

Hello Martinman,

Yeah, if I was going to be stuck in an airplane for 21 hrs, I would definitely include my mp3 player in my survival kit. I have never been in the plane that long. Maybe, it would be a good idea to bring my laptop, as well. Or, perhaps, you only need to be concerned with the person seating next to you. In the best scenario, you could pick up a date, or pick a new friend. Nevertheless, do not leave it to destiny, be creative and be prepared to make it happen. In the worst case, well, could be a good time to try out the noise canceling high-end BOSE headsets.

Have to agree the Iphone is just right now out of my league, price wise.
I have played with them before, all my young guitar students have them.
I enjoyed playing with it,but I don't know if it's practical for me personally.

In the future when another company makes one for cheaper,I will pick one
up just for the fun of it.I have always had patience...

im sure this is not too far off the beaten path. i see google just launched a new phone. the price is around 170.00 i watched a vid on it and it looks pretty cool. not as smooth as the i phone but i'm sure it is a matter of time before someone will release something close for cheaper. verizon tried to do this with the dare and voyager. neither phone comes close to the iphone in my opinion. the dare does come with a cool camera and the touch screen works better than the voyager.

aslo there a hacks out there for the iphone. you dont have to be locked into at@t. i live in montana and at@t is not even close to my parts.

thanks

hello gm,

you just dont update the software update for your phone. you can update itunes but then it will ask you if you want to update the software on your phone and you just say no.

its just a matter of time when they do software updates that the hack is out for the new update. im running two iphones one is 3g and one is the first generation. there is no software hack for the 3g, just a sim card. there is a software hack to jailbreak the 3g. that means that you can use the phone as an i touch and all its featues without having to go through at@t. this does not allow to use the phone free of at@t. you have to buy a chip that makes the phone free to use on any gsm network.

my first generation can be jailbroken and also unlocked through software that one can dl for free over the net. the phone will work on any gsm network, plus it will work as long as you don't do a software update.

thanks,

cr
