Post Wireless DRM Free Music from Orchard - 10-25-2007, 07:05 PM

Greg Scholl, president and chief executive of The Orchard music label(and Emusic)has teamed up with Groove Mobile to offer DRM free music and sidestep "carrier-based" music stores and bring wireless music directly to the people.
Mr Scholl has always been opposed to the DRM format, and is the reason
he created Emusic. This new venture will take his crusade, another step further.

Hi Nightfly, thanks the post. I hate to say it, but one day I fear the Russian sites we hold so dear will eventually be forced to close. Hopefully quite a long time but I fear it inevitable eventually (cue other forum members hurling abusive denial at Hirs ). EMusic is establishing a great business model for us all to dive into when that sad day comes to pass.

Hello Hirs,

The positive thing I see about the Russian sites is that they are
adaptable and are open for change.Even If they do close, I believe
they will re-open again and morph into something else and be able to
reinvent themselves.I do not see the same for the US sites forming.
Emusic is willing to shake hands with big business up to a point,
without compromising their integrity.....so far. I hope this continues.
Because as the second largest downloading site in the US, lets hope
that more artists go the Independent route and leave the big Corps behind.
They are a good working business model for all concerned, and hope that
they will learn something as well from the Russian sites. As far as giving
the people the options of quality like Sparks, and more direct contact
with their customers like some of the other Ru. sites. They already think
globally,a great deal of Orchard's fine catalog is quality world music titles
that I frequently download or buy on Cd and are one of the only Music shops
in the US that is open to the global community.
