Unhappy Alltunes log on problems - 08-15-2007, 12:22 AM

Been an alltunes user for 18 months or more but the last two days when I click log on it seems to half do it - I can see my balance for instance but it also freezes with eggtimer going and send the memory usage of my PC (Win XP) through the roof before I eventually have to close it using Task Manager. Tried a re-install of alltunes, but get same problem. Any help/suggestions?

Have you tried clearing your Temporary Internet Files cache? Also, you could try logging in to XP as a different user and see if you have the same problem.

I ditch Temporary Internet Files cache at the end of each session, so that was a none starter, but interestingly logging in as diff user worked just fine. Thx for the tip.

Glad to help, though a fix is always better than a workaround.

If you're relying on Internet Explorer to clean its cache, this isn't always reliable when the cache is corrupted. I suggest cleaning the cache manually if you haven't already. To do this, you need to be logged in as an administrator who is not the username whose cache you're flushing. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\ and delete the Content.IE5 folder.

Wow, gluteus maximum Sorry if I have already praised you once but I'm really glad that you joined this forum. You are very good at describing these issues in a clear and understandable way

There are several people on these forums with different but overlapping technical knowledges. Hopefully we can all learn from each other, and between us, cover most of the technical issues that arise here.

i know, I got a pc at work and I have a funky system - I buy music at home, and by the time I get back to my office in the morning, AllTunes has faithfully dumped it onto my hard drive. Then I bring it home on a stick and - voila! - new music galore.

Gluteus, thank you so much!
I haven't been able to use Alltunes for months to download music. I never would have thought to login to Vista as another user (I almost didn't take your advice cause it seemed totally ridonkulus) Now I'm dying to figure out why, oh why, does it work for a different login profile.
