Alltunes on a Mac - 02-02-2008, 02:41 PM

Forgive me if this has been discussed before, but mac is too short for the search function to work with...

Has anybody had any experience with Alltunes on a Mac, using Parallels, VM Fusion, or anything of that sort?

Hi queuecipher, welcome to the forum

Yes, the ineffectual search function on this site has been discussed before You can get round it by using site search on AltaVista http://www.altavista.com (NOT Google!) Type in something like

site:aom3.org mac alltunes

and you may find some relevant results.

EDIT: GOOGLE is now the better option for doing this

I sometimes (= when MP3Sparks is down for the umpteenth time) use AllTunes in Parallels on my Mac. It works perfectly, which is not surprising considering that even complex games like Half-Life 2 kinda work in Parallels (the slow framerate makes them unplayable, though).

I was able to get it working using CrossOver, but not 100%.

First, install CrossOver Mac (CodeWeavers - Your Home for Windows Compatibility on Mac and Linux)
Then you must put mfc42.dll in the virtualized Windows directory.
Then AllTunes works EXCEPT for the integrated web browser parts (such as the BUY button or choosing formats)
The workaround I found was to shop and buy on mp3sparks.com and then launch AllTunes and have it just do the downloading.

The only other real problem I had is that if you minimize the window, it won't come back right until you exit the program and re-launch it. I had better results when I told it to not minimize to the tray but that still doesn't work right.

In case you didn't know, CrossOver is a Mac port/front-end for WINE, which will allow you to install/run Windows programs on a Mac. IT DOES NOT INSTALL DUAL BOOT OR VIRTUAL MACHINE like Parallels or VMWare or VirtualPC. This makes it much much faster, but not nearly as compatible.

Just wanted to make sure it was legit......

paisan was just talking about one of myriad of ways to get windows running on a mac and all the little tricks and hoops that you have to go through in order to get it working since the software mentioned is a 3rd party app and therefore has not been blessed by the MAC gods and therefore made user proof

If you really wanted to loose people, just start talking about running multiple VMs (Win, Linux, Mac) simultaneously on a x64 server. You get that glossy 'brain BSOD' look really fast as they try to comprehend 16 OS's running on one computer all at the same time.

Vik, Nice new avatar pic!!
