Downloading disabled for maintenance problem - 08-16-2012, 10:14 AM

Hi,

I have a problem with downloading both on mp3sparks and alltunes.
Both give me this "ordering temporarily disabled." message. I have tried removing databases and downloaded with all firewalls turned off but with no success.
The strange thing is on public computers there is no problem at all! I've tried at least 3 and am always able to download.
Don't know what it is about my computer (????) Very weird.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Rdog 49, sorry to hear of your problem.

I have to say it does sound as if it is something your end as you say it's fine from a public computer and I have just tried Sparks myself and ordering is working fine for me.

I am puzzled that it's both Sparks and Alltunes. Sparks is web based so the downloaded database should have no effect on ordering or downloading. As far as I know the database is only accessed by the AllTunes software installed on your computer.

What browser are you using?

Have you been able to order/download from Sparks/AllTunes using this computer previously?

If yes can you think of anything you changed that might have caused the problem?

Maybe someone else will be able to offer more advice - good luck.

Reports about this have been coming in for a while now, but I've never seen this error message either.

Sparks and allTunes have multiple server mirrors, and I had wondered if there could be a problem with just one of them, but Rdog49's report of problems with both services seems to rule that out. I wondered if they were randomly blocking some accounts as sometimes happens with payment options but again, Rdog49's experience blows that idea out of the water too. The other possibility I can think of is that they're blocking some IP address ranges. One way to test that would be for someone who has this problem to try connecting from the same computer via a VPN or trusted proxy service, or if they have a laptop, connecting to the internet at another location. Apart from that, I'm out of ideas.

Hi and thanks for the replies.

I live in Mexico but I know the country isn't the problem. It might be more that they're blocking some IP ranges.

I think gluteus maximus's idea might be right on.

I'll try this computer at another location and see what happens.

Hi GM,

Your idea that it could be IP blocking makes sense - I can't think of anything else that would affect both Sparks and AllTunes seeing as they use different methods to access the service.

Do you think this could be possible if IP blocking were the problem?

I must admit it does seem strange that you can access the site and, as you say, you can preview complete songs. You would think that if it were a case of a range of IP addresses being bocked you would not be able to get to Sparks/AllTunes at all.

Downloaded some new songs from alltunes just a week or so ago, but two that I set up last night, turns out they are "stuck", they show up on my purchased list but haven't yet downloaded.

I'm going to just wait this out as usual, presuming there is a technical glitch somewhere.

I'm having a similar problem. AllTunes shows the purchases in the queue, but never starts the download. Mp3Sparks shows them in the basket awaiting encoding...perpetually, it seems.
