Yes, you can 'pin' your favourite programs to the Task Bar; this is supposed to replace the functionality of the QuickLaunch toolbar, which is now hidden by default. I don't find this useful, to put it politely, so I've unpinned everything and reinstated the QuickLaunch bar.

Microsoft spends a fortune on usability testing, so one must assume that most people like the changes to the interface. I'm not one of those people, and until I've found replacements for all the lost features of XP, I won't consider using Win7 on a regular basis.

XP was an OS that I liked. It was only after a horrible experience with Vista between HP and Microsoft hand balling me off to one another that I chucked it all in and went to Mac. Now that I'm used to it, I have no regrets. Sometimes I think I should get XP and load it on for hard-to-find programs for Mac. But I spend my money on music instead.
