Song previews limited again? -
06-29-2012, 01:19 AM
Just updated to the latest version and don't know it's related or not, but now the song previews are about a minute or so instead of the full song. Did they stop doing full song previews even for those who've made enough purchases or is this an error? Thanks!

I tested previews today with the last three versions of allTunes; all of them were giving 90 seconds, so reverting to an earlier version will not give full previews.
While I was testing, previews became completely unavailable, with a "can't open file" message. This was triggered by a "404 Not Found" message from the server when the preview was requested. This is presumably a temporary glitch.
After years of beta status, allTunes has now reached version 1 - although the front page at alltunes.com still describes it as 0.9 beta. D'oh. If the 90 second preview becomes a permanent feature, I would guess it's because too many people have been using allTunes as a streaming media player, and not making any purchases.
At this time, full previews are still available from MP3Sparks.

EDIT: 90 sec previews are now working again.

same old problem with 1.0.41.211 -
07-03-2012, 11:33 PM
hi gm,
since updating to 1.0.41.211 three days ago i keep getting the "Ordering is temporarily disabled
We are sorry, but the ordering is currently disabled. Please check back later." when ordering and the good old "BASS_StreamCreateURL error: can't open the file" when trying to preview.
is this permanent or will it work in a few hours/days/weeks? or do i have to go back to an older version (which i don't have)?
already de-installed and re-installed the whole thing but still the old problem.
hope you can help, need some tracks for my birthday party this weekend!
big thanks, ty

Hi tyhar, and welcome
allTunes v1.0 has been working fine for me, though there may have been some outages.
As a quick fix for your birthday party (happy birthday!) log in via Mp3Sparks.com and try to download from there. If that doesn't work, there's some sort of general problem. If Mp3Sparks does work, and allTunes still doesn't, there may be a problem with your installation. When you uninstall and re-install, your user database is preserved; corruption in that database has been known to cause weird problems before.
The new version of allTunes includes a Data Manager tool, you can find this in the allTunes folder in C:\Program Files. I suggest wiping both databases. I hope this helps.

Preview working, ordering not -
07-04-2012, 12:34 PM
first of all a grand THANKS for your help GM. with the database delete I got the previewing back. The ordering is still disabled, but I can do that at MP3Sparks - also thanks for that advice.
Guess the ordering is a general problem and will wait it out.
Peace and out,
Ty

Thanks for the insight GM, I think I will wait and leave both my PC's on the previous version, as all is working well on them both.

Hi tyhar
I'm glad that helped. However, there is no general problem with ordering using the new version; I've no idea why it's not working for you. Note that you can order through the Mp3Sparks web site, then download using allTunes - this can be useful if you have allTunes set up to use a custom filename format.
Hi chris7
I think you're confusing 'insight' with 'shot in the darK'
I've had no problems with the new allTunes downloader myself, but if you're not being bothered by 'Range Check' errors, there seems no compelling reason to upgrade.

Hi GM,
I like the way you slipped in a great Peter Sellers film title in the reply, I think this should happen more often.
Regards
Chris.

Alltunes previews don't work for me, either. I reinstalled but that did nothing. So, now that I am unable to fill my balance either, the whole thing is pretty useless.
