Question I have Windows 98, 2nd Edition - 08-12-2008, 04:37 PM

I activated the Bonus code, no problem.

I downloaded the Skyshare Manager and unzipped it, no problem.

But apparently I need to download Java for everything to be okay, and the Java page that MP3SkyLine points to, doesn't mention (ancient) Windows 98.

Am I out in the cold, doomed to have a $5.00 balance that I can't use?

(And if I _do_ solve the Java problem -- what folder on my harddrive does Skyshare Manager have to be in, to work right?)

***********

Totally OT: The blue babe with all the glittering diamonds makes a good mascot. Great choice!

tomhr

have you tried to run and install JRE from here: Download Java software from Sun Microsystems (that one that is gesignated for WinXP/2000) ?

please let me know.

upd: you should get the proper Java for Win98 from here: http://www.java.com/en/download/windows98me_manual.jsp
p.s. software itself will be of 1 mb filesize on your harddrive, no matter where you will install it.

MP3skyline archmage. Over 3 100 000 tunes - ain't it magic?
one, two - buckle my shoe, three, four - shut the door, five, six - pick up sticks, seven, eight - lay em straight

Hi skyforger

The Java download for Windows98 SE is version 1.5.0 - I suspect that Skyshare Manager needs v 1.6.0 ?

Anyway, I couldn't install any version of Skyshare Manager on Win98. Anyone else had any success?

hi Gluteus,

nope, we developed Software for 1.4.x version, to be compatible with older Macs and any kind of Win. however we haven't tried ourselves to run it on Win98 -- we just don't have any

hope, tomhr will be back shortly with some news regarding his Win98 issue.

regards,
Max

I downloaded the Win98SE version of Java that you pointed me to (thanks), and tested it; it works fine.

I'm creating a list of the 25 songs I'm going to buy with my free credit, and then I'll download them all at once. Or try to download them! That will be sometime between 0 and 48 hours from now.

No, I'm saying I got Java to work. I haven't tried downloading any MP3Skyline tunes at all, and I won't for a while yet.

I downloaded Java yesterday, but now I don't see the little coffee-cup icon. I guess that means the Java plug-in isn't plugged in. How do I make Java plug into Windows, or Internet Explorer, or whatever it's supposed to plug into?

I tried downloading a song. I got "You need to download the Manager" messages, I did, and then nothing happened.
