that was a server side bug - you clicked on .jar link but got .zip file.
so you need to rename it (or just re-download the file, since the bug was fixed already). than you need to launch .jar file (double-click, etc). if the file won't be identified - this means you dont have Java Framework at all. you need to install it from the link (see guide page), and after few minutes you're ready to go with downloads.
regarding blanks, problems, etc - i guess it would be nice to establish "knowledge base", this will help my team to release 0.9 stable asap.
p.s. software
does not require any additional libraries (like allTunes) for the full operational.
