Thumbs up Bonus for yearly up-front subscription - 01-31-2008, 09:40 PM

Hi All,
just in case you do not know, emusic (UK site at least) is now offering a 20% bonus for paying for your monthly subscription a year in advance. This can be increased to a 25% discount if you go for paying for two years worth in advance, but that seem a bit too far in the future for me. I am on the 75 tracks a month scheme, so this means instead of paying £14-99 a month, I paid paid £143.90 up-front and will get 75 tracks a month for one year (saving me £36 over the year). This is still expensive compared to the Russian sites (~$0.32 per track at emusic), but for me the choice in music of my taste is second to none. Having said this, if emusic go and drop their monthly subscription fee in two months time, they are going to be losing one very hacked off customer from the UK (I am sure they won't, famous last words ).
I would be interetsed to hear if this deal is on offer in the US and if it is, just how much do you pay (interesting to hear how much emusic are fleecing their UK customers),
Cheers,
Dave C

Dave,

In the US we always had the option of 1 year 20% and 2 years 25%

I pay monthly because I still get 90 downloads a month and don't want to mess that up being a old timer there...But if I was in the UK where where you pay a little more I would do the yearly(if I had the dough upfront that is....) to save at the per download rate.I think that they will always maintain the subscription model because it obviously is working for them and allows them
to maintain low prices in comparison to iTunes and now Amazon, their US
competition.

But I agree there is stuff there that I can get Nowhere else on the net,
at any price and I am glad to have access to a catalogue that really
suits my personal tastes..but I admit it's not for everyone.

and a combination of a Russian site and Emusic does the trick for me.
My musical cup runneth over....

This is probably a case of me not noticing and we have probably always had this option in the UK as well . I just got an e-mail from emusic this morning saying about the discount and assumed it was a new option,

NB. If not for emusic, where else would I have got 'Munly & The Lee Lewis Harlots' DRM free

That is what I have now come to realize myself.

I have totally exhausted the music that I want from what is available using the Russian sites.
The Russian sites still have the best deals for my dollar, but they no longer have anything new in their catalog that interests me.

A shame really.
For groups as such that are in the business of selling music,I find it hard to believe that they can't get the music that anyone might request.

We are talking about organizations that generate several millions of dollars here.
They should go buy the cd for a few lousy bucks and rip it already.
That is what emusic is doing.

Rolly,

I think you might have said it best..
After all these years emusic continues to turn me on musically
on a regular basis....
Being slighty jaded by many years of music collecting.
I need the stimulus of the hunt and special find.

Well, no, it's not. Emusic downloads are legit - label and artists get paid, and have agreed to having their music there. It's a good model and very fair pricing. I enjoy exploring with my 90 downloads a month!

My point actually, but I was trying not to be so bold as to say it.

Using the argument that Emusic downloads are legit(which they are)suggests nicely that the Russian sites are NOT legit, and everybody using these sites know this.
Clearing the air on that, why don't they just rip the cd's already?
Ripping the cd's would not be legit, but why stop at that?

I could present my argument with better clarification, but I think what I am trying to say doesn't need to be said.I'm sure everyone knows what is meant.

Rolly,

You were very clear to me and clarifiation was not necessary.
You wrote about what the Forum is about eMusic.
And this is a forum for Emusic users, not legality issues which
has it's own Forum on this site.Where those issues should be addressed
and posted.

i wonder if anyone tried this trick with subscription sites? - 05-20-2008, 07:36 PM

let's say you register with emusic. they offer free downloads upon registration. once you are there and download all your free mp3s you delete your membership on this site and do not get charged.
this is the first part.
the second part is to register with another credit card (i think that the first one won't be granted with free bonus anymore) and then get your free tracks again.
is this possible?

Yes but once you have used both cards they have your cards on file
and you cannot get more free downloads from those cards again,
If you should choose to become a actual member.
Which we encourage....
