A month or so ago I posted a link that allows you to sign up for a trial subscription to eMusic getting 100 downloads instead of the customary 25. Here is the link for those who would like to try it:

eMusic Picks » Blog Archive » 100 Free Downloads from eMusic, instead of regular 25

I agree with Nightfly here. Don't abuse the system. A site like eMusic is a cool find. They have a great selection of tunes available if you are willing to search for them. Please treat them kindly...

Thanks,

Question US verses UK pricing - 10-16-2007, 11:12 PM

Hi Nightfly,
just got a quick question about the pricing policy for e-music. First off, what I like about all of the Russian download sites is that you pay the same for music regardless of where you live; i.e. if I wanted to buy the latest Stereophonics album from mp3sparks it would cost me $1-99; the same as it would cost you in the US. One of the reasons I dislike i-tunes is that in the US it costs you less than it would cost me to download an album. How does e-music work? I know it is subscription and you buy a number of tracks per month, so for me in the UK, 75 tracks costs £14-99 (~$30-46) per month. How much does it cost you in the US to buy the standard 75 tracks per month (I will be disappointed if it is not the same as I am paying ),
Cheers,
Dave C

Dave,

The the answer is 19.99 USD for 75 DLs.....
I was not aware of their Euro pricing...glad we discussed this and we
can all ask why are the prices higher for Euro. customers.
what is 20 usd in pounds (how do you make a pounds symbol on the keyboard?)
Lets get on this right away...
and we'll ask Squash to chime in and
ask him his experiences in pricing and ask him if he thinks it fair..
OK Squash..thanks.

We'll continue this..

Take care,

Nightfly

Hi All,
I joined for the basic US$9.99 per month package. For this I get 30 downloads, thus US$0.30 per track or AU$0.33 per track.Paid by CC and the current exchange rate is US$1 buys AU$0.91. So, payment wise, Emusic works for me exactly the same as Sparks/MM.
At the Oz iTunes store the price per song is AU$1.69 or AU$2.19 if you want 256 kbps and no DRM (better to go to Borders and buy the CD).
I recall reading on a post something to the effect you had to be in the USA to join Emusic, but I did not get a hint of this when I joined.
Maybe Oz has finally become a State of the US and I didn't notice

Squash,

The one thing that I like about Emusic is that it is a global site.
They do have a Euro-Emusic site for those in Europe based countries.
It sends you there or to Emusic according to your Ip address when signing up.

Here's a thread where I first discovered there was a separate Euro site.
I wasn't aware because we would have many UK posters on the US site asking why a album was not available in the UK. I assumed everybody used the same site.Specifically read the posts by Bruno.

Thanks, I have read the thread and now have 2 questions that someone might have quick answers to before I do my own research:
1. Are Emusic Europe's prices substantially different to Emusic.com?
2. Is the music catalog (the labrador prefers dogalog ) different on both sites and, if so, to what extent?

Squash
