This tread is for everyone who is a Emusic member or would like
to become a Emusic. To discuss policy's,incentives and general
policy's.I will try to answer any questions you might have.I have
been a user for many years. And I know that there are other members
here that are also quite knowledgeable.
Emusic for those that don't know, is a sight for Independent music
only, with no DRM,over 2 million titles in all genres of music and is fairly
priced and totally legal. They are a global sight that caters to the US with
Emusic and they have Euro-Emusic that caters to the rest of the world.
Here is the Link:
MP3 music download website, eMusic
Look forward to discussing with other Emusic members great finds,
that they come across, and better ways to get more out of their
service.
Cheers,

As someone who was a member of eMusic for nearly two years, I used to loudly sing their praises from the rooftops. They had lots of very obscure music you couldn't find anywhere else and a good community who would pass on recommendations via the message boards. Then I discovered many more sources of inexpensive music - Russian sites, blogs, etc. Then eMusic increased their prices. Then the message boards started to become dominated by smartarses and illiterate new members who couldn't find U2 or Britney and needed to rant about it. Then I left. I might still go back one day, but last time I couldn't even find the 30 tracks for which I'd paid £8.99, so I'm in no hurry. Emusic is still a Good Thing in general, but it ain't as good as it used to be . . .

I never have used the message boards there, but I have read them though,
and know what you mean..many people still don't understand what the word
Independent means...They still are a pretty savvy community, the people
in the know, leave pretty good reviews for others with detailed info.
The prices are still pretty good I pay 22 cents a DL (still was able to keep
old price) ,30 would cost me 6.60. But if I would make such a purchase, it was for a hard to find 2cd set ..which would be hard to find even in the retail shops.I have done it before, gladly.
To me its not about cheap or
inexpensive alone ...without a great catalogue it means nothing.
I have been with them since 2003 and agree nothing stays the same. but some things have improved over there
as well recently with a new toolbar with Emusic radio ,lots of free tracks
and they do attempt to keep thing "relatively" inexpensive compared to anything we have in the US.
When I discovered Allofmp3 a few years later, I had between them
both, all the music I wanted for my personal musical needs.

My Emusic Experience -
10-09-2007, 10:32 AM
I only found out about Emusic because I saw it mentioned in this forum as a place to find music that is not readily available at other online stores. I tried it with the 25 free dowload intro offer and signed up to a basic monthly package. I am not a fan of the 'Use it or Lose it' policy but have no trouble using my quota well before the cut-off date. More importantly, I mainly search out classical music as this can be great value for money. The cost per download is the same without regard to the file size so a concerto 40-50 minutes long might be just 3 long tracks. I believe this applies for some other genres as well.
I had two downloads left last month and DL'd a gem of a piano concerto by Taneyev (Banowetz on piano and highly recommended) which was 35 minutes long in 2 files.
I also like the download manager which is fast, imports album artwork and loads the music straight into my iTunes library.
One thing I don't like, and this applies to most of the other online stores (except Sparks) as well, is the 30 second sample limit. With classical music you rarely get much of a taste in such a short time. Why don't they cut off the last 30 seconds - if they have to impose such a restriction at all
Inside every older person is a younger person wondering what the hell happened

Hello Squash,
I agree when it comes to Classical and Jazz with a Symphony being in
only 3 or 4 movements..and Jazz track are generally 8 mins or longer and generally 4 to 7 tracks they are great values for these quality performances usually from audiophile based labels(Classical). Also African Highlife and Soukous jams have only 4 tracks a album.
That down-loader you have is their new one and I like it as well.Very well thought out, and best of all even faster than their old one, which I thought was fast..
Taneyev is a new composer to me, but I will check it out.
Yes and 30 secs is not adequate for a sample..like Sparks give it to us in
lesser quality 24kps(also downloads faster) but give us at least 90secs.
I will write back soon with some of my value tracks.

Account reactivated -
10-10-2007, 12:01 AM
Well, I finally had to bite the bullet and reactivate my old e-music account. I have had just had a run on albums that were only available (to download) from i-tunes and decided that rather than going down that route , I would get them all off e-music . Signed up for the 75 downloads for £15 per month. I vaguely remember someone posting a few months ago that you could get a better deal some how? Anybody help me out or am I remembering this wrong?? Again, I am surprised at just how good e-music's catalog is. I am going to have to force myself to go easy or I will burn up my downloads far too quickly and be left feeling irritated again ,
Cheers,
Dave C

Dave,
I'm sorry there is a link somewhere for 100 free downloads to
sign-up it is a old link but it may still work...Im sorry you signed up already..
I will find this link and post it as well as the promo, If you recommend
someone you get 50 free ,and the person signing up gets 50 free.
We all have to support each other and make sure we get the most
bang for our buck and if you run out of downloads...pm me and
I will share a idea with you.
Yes you are right their catalog is really getting really good lately,
and they are really trying to be a major player and have always
been anti DRM.There new down-loader is also quite good..I know you will
see the difference as a ex customer.
Let me know if I can do anything for you,
Nightfly

I used this link when I first signed up, and I have to say I did try to re-use it this afternoon when I tried to open a new account, but it recognised my credit card and would not let me . The link still worked though so if anyone is going to sign up to a new account it is definitely worth having. See below for link,

Thanks Dave,
When you resign up..they keep all your old info on their Database..
I know this from experience as well..But if you wanted to sign up your
wife with a different card ..you can use the link and be able to get the small
package monthly that is cheaper than buying a booster pack when you
run out.The booster packs as you know are not a very good value.
If you find that you are not in need of a second acct. you can cancel.
I have had a second acct for the past 2 years and always find
I need the extra DLs at the end of the month. This has worked out well
for me.Because many old blues albums have 21 -2mins songs on one album.
But as I stated before maintaining a active account for 2 years is not the
same thing as singing up over and over and canceling before the expiration
period, when you have no intention to actually signing up and using their services. My wife actually does use the acct under her name..well sorta
she picks the music and I get it for her... like a great many other things..
and I wouldn't have it any other way..
Edit:the directly above was not for you Dave, but as you know every so often
someone has this "genious" idea and I don't want to go through it again....
Cheers,
Nightfly

Hi Dave, Nightfly & others,
Hopefully this info about eMusic is helpful to you folks here. Nightfly posted:

A month or so ago I posted a link that allows you to sign up for a trial subscription to eMusic getting 100 downloads instead of the customary 25. Here is the link for those who would like to try it:
eMusic Picks » Blog Archive » 100 Free Downloads from eMusic, instead of regular 25

I agree with Nightfly here. Don't abuse the system. A site like eMusic is a cool find. They have a great selection of tunes available if you are willing to search for them. Please treat them kindly...
Thanks,
