Telarc Digital - 03-12-2008, 01:40 PM

Emusic now have a relationship with Telarc and a number of the albums from the Telarc Digital catalogue are available on the site.

When there was only vinyl, Telarc were right up the top of the audiophile wish-list. In Oz, as imports, they cost more than double anything else. But they were quality in every way.

This quote from their web-site sums it up for me:

"The Telarc Sound of my recordings can best be described," says jazz legend Dave Brubeck, "by a comment made by my son, Darius, who is also a pianist. This is what he said about my Christmas album: 'It felt like I was at home in the same room listening to Dad play.'" Brubeck goes on to point out that "it is presence, whether in a concert hall, night club, or small intimate room, that gives Telarc recordings their realistic, pure sound."

I DL'd the Verdi Requium and I am very pleased with the quality of the encoding and the sound - all tracks are 200 plus VBR.

Telarc have a fantastic catalogue (not just classical) and I recommend giving anything under this label that interests you a serious listen

Thumbs up Telarc - 03-15-2008, 11:09 AM

I used to have a Telarc CD called "Pomp & Pizazz" which had marches and other rousing tunes by the likes of Copland and Sousa. Not sure if it`s still available but it was great stuff

Also, the sound quality was, indeed, fantastic.

Sure is :

Telarc International:

Telarc's site has a lot of free downloads - most in 128K but quite a few in 320K. Also, you can preview whole albums in 128k

I haven't looked for this on eMusic yet.

Squash

Edit: The previews seem to be about 1 minute per track at 128k
The free DL's, even at 128k sound very good. The Bach "Sanctus" in 320k I am listening to as I type this is stunning!

Squash,

Know Telarc well, they were one of the the first digital Audio-file labels.
I remember getting "The 1812 Overture" and it came with a warning
on the cover stating that they use real canons and be careful of your speakers..lol..No rock album ever came with that warning.....
(but I can attest that The Who Live at Leeds should have had a warning
when I blew out my fathers A&R Speaker)
Also I have a beautiful lush Swan Lake from them that I play often.

Now they are making Jazz albums from jazz giants that are still alive
and a few Blues albums as well.Still a great functioning label with
some of the best recordings made..

Holst -The Planets is magnificent on Telarc..if you don't have it, worth seeking out.

Nightfly, the albums you referred to, and the 'Pomp and Pizzaz' Starcat asked about, are all on eMusic (and then some). I might have to upgrade my subscription

Cheers,

Squash

Squash, Thanks for telling me about the Telarc and eMusic hookup
and I'm checking out the Telarc site now and then to eMusic
to get some classic Telarc stuff I never got around to getiing.

Check out Jongen:Symphonie Cocertante for Organ and Orchestra
featuring Michael Murray on Organ W/DeWaart and the S.F. Symph.
real cool recording.

also the Mendelssohn Octet by The Cleaveland Quartet

Will do. Thanks for the recommends, Nightfly.

I have DL'd all the free Blues tracks on the Telarc site and it makes a nice little sampler - even at 128k (and some are 320k) the sound is very good.

Thanks for the info, Squash.

Was great to hear those tracks again even if they were only samples.

I`m impressed by the amount and variety of free downloads on the site.

Will check them out when I can

Carmina Burana - 03-26-2008, 08:54 AM

I have recently DL'd Orff's 'Carmina Burana' from EMusic. Another wonderful production from Telarc Digital. A spectacular orchestral and choral fireworks display. And a bargain as it is over 60 minutes long in just 4 tracks of excellent VBR quality.
