Another service that may (self censored) the mafIAA - 06-06-2007, 01:29 AM

For those in the US this may be a nice way to BUY cheap music ... The RIAA mafIAA may well get MAD

Quote:
When Lala.com launched just last year, the company raised eyebrows looking to build a business around trading of compact discs for a dollar per trade while expecting most of its revenue to come from sales of new CDs.
Read article here : http://www.engadget.com/2007/06/05/s...e-web-the-lat/

Web site here : http://www.lala.com/

If the RIAA mafIAA wants to stop trading of used CD's it may get a little harder. Enforcing this would be against the most basic rights, the right to BUY an item and later resell it as a second hand item...

Enjoy !

Great website - 06-07-2007, 01:14 AM

I've been an active member of lala.com for about a year now. I uploaded my library just yesterday - haven't tried it out yet. I've gotten a lot of CDs that were hard to find for only $1 plus 75 cents shipping. Everyone should check it out. I'm sure most of you have CDs you no longer desire to listen to. The only requirement is that it be an original copy, not a burned copy or a promotional copy.

Hi Nightfly,
Glad your daughter could help. It's a really great website. People who are members share lots of information about music. You can browse genres and if you see a CD that looks interesting, you can listen to samples, read people's reviews, read bios and background. I listed on my profile that I require cover art - that means when someone sends you a CD they have to at least send the liner notes. Usually they send the back cover art too. LaLa sends you for free a bunch of plastic cases to put the CDs in that you're trading and also postage paid envelopes to send them in. That's why you want people to send you the cover art. Otherwise you only receive the CD and I figure then I might as well just download the music. It's not acceptable to trade Promotional CDs. That's to protect the artist. You don't want to receive any yourself because then you can't trade them back. The Customer Service is very responsive and will email you back immediately with any questions you have. They're always adding new features to the site - ie the library they have now. There's no fee to register or join, so you should just try it out. Start by listing all the CDs you have that you're willing to trade and then list the CDs you want. The more you have on both lists, the more you'll receive. Everytime you get an email saying someone is sending you one of the CDs on your Want list, you should immediately go to your Have list and you'll see which CDs of yours someone wants. You click on it, then enter the ID number from your free mailing envelope to activate it and get the address of the person you're sending it to, put the artwork and CD in the lala plastic case into the envelope and mail it. A few days later you'll receive your CD from your Want list. It's cool.
