Free Live Concerts: Fear of Being Charged - 07-28-2008, 12:44 AM

I added funds to my Lavamus account and started to add some free concerts to my cart. You get 10 albums a day free if your balance is over $20. My balance is $31.60.

After adding 9 concerts (a few of which I only selected some of the tracks) I get the following "pre-purchase info":

Your current balance is 31.60$
You have 15 bonus track(s) to download.
You have 0 free Live and Radio shows left to download today.
Users with over $20 on their account balance can download up to 10 Live and Radio shows for FREE every day.
TOTAL ORDER AMOUNT IS 12.87$

I'm concerned that if I press the trigger, I'll be charged the $12.87.

Anyone with experience doing this???

Hi chamlin

Why not remove one (or a couple) of those albums, thus the remaining albums are less than $11.60. Download those - and THEN order the last one(s)...

Thanks guys! I'll give it a shot. Back in an hour or two of errands and then we'll see what works.

chamlin, there IS a problem with their database and associated
accounting on the very last (10th) free album, the accounting
switches to fast, before you have downloaded. so just keep it
at 9 - and do 10, as nightfly suggested, next day.

happened to me twice, was charged for the 10th album.
LAVAMUS did refund it, but still hasnt fixed it. tried yesterday,
saw the charges show up, and stopped before it was to late.

greets - henry

Thanks Henry, yes there is definitely a database issue. So I just downloaded until it threatened to charge me and then I backed off. No problem. Just have to pay attention.

Nighty nite!

yep, thats the way to do it. it shouldnt be, though, because
others might fall for it and pay.

they also still have a problem with those one-click downloads
in a TAR file. fairly often that file is empty, sometimes it saves
without any name and therefor vanishes after download, and
more often than not many of the selected tunes are just not in
the pack.

all easy to correct as they in a fair way offer repeated downloads,
but still a pain. you have to constantly watch out and doublecheck.

greets - henry

Sorry, haven't used Lavamus yet, so I don't fully understand.

Does this so called "database problem" occur if your balance goes under $20, had you had to pay for those 10 albums?

If so, isn't it simply solvable by having maybe an extra dollar in your balance to not run into this problem at all, or being diligent and do your maths if you do have a "borderline" balance.

Don't really see that as a database problem at all. Seems like it works exactly how it should, and for the price of having 10 albums free a day, it's a small fee to keep a couple of bucks in your balance!

But then, it's just me. Henry, as always finds a loophole.

thats what henry does, yes. and does well. but also the good ones.

>> haven't used Lavamus yet, so I don't fully understand

use it, and try download 10 free albums. then you will. much better than
my explanations here.

it does not depend on how much $$$s you have in your account. what it does,
while you 'buy' that last free album nbr 10, it switches over as if you have no
more free albums left at all, and already charges the last ones(s). basically, what
it should do between 10 and 11, it does at 9 -> 10.

sometimes it charges just for the #10, sometimes for 1-10, also strange.
so apperently, it also tries to reset you balance immdtly, and if that then falls
below $20, off it goes: 1-10 charged.

but as it was said, just sticking to 9 solves it anyhow, and even as such the offer
of LAVAMUS is considered a very generous one.

even by henry. who found it, used it and enjoyed some very good music thru it.

and who send his greets ...

Ok, I thought this was just a case if you have a "borderline" balance. If, as you described what "it should do between 10 and 11, it does at 9 -> 10", then it's indeed problem.

Of course it's not a "database problem". Sorry - I am a DBA, and get very frustrated when everything gets called a database problem, even when it has nothing whatsoever do to with it.
