Background Info

Legalsounds has been on the block since 2005, is Russian based and music is distributed under the licence of the Russian Multimedia and Internet Society. For some reason Russian music content is distributed under a licence from an organisation called E-Now.

Legalsounds has two main selling points:

1. Most tracks are priced at a somewhat paltry $0.09
2. They are one of the few sites that offer a ‘music downloader’ i.e. a programme that is easily installed to make downloading the purchased tracks quicker and easier.

The apparent downsides of the site appear to be:

1. The site isn’t the fastest to load and also seems to have a little more than it’s fair share of ‘downtime’ and ‘timeouts’.
2. Bit Rates of tracks / albums on offer is a bit of a lottery. Some track are available at 320 kbps whilst others can come in the 160/170 region, although it’s probably fair to say most are in the region of 192 kbps (up until March 2007 ALL new tracks added were 192 kbps).
