Lightbulb Anonymous surfing and accessing censored sites - 10-16-2007, 10:00 AM

I came across this site, which gives directions and advice how to 1. stay anonymous surfing the web and 2. be able to access sites, which are censored by your government or ISP.

Thanks solaris for that very interesting read. In a world where our online activities are increasingly being monitored, it would be nice to see more people using these technologies.

There is also a swedish service called Relakks (http://www.relakks.com) which should suit the non-techinal folks quite well.

What it does is bascially opening a VPN tunnel to Sweden and thus let's you use any application (not just your browser) that acessess the internet through a swedish "ISP" without them logging. This means that your original privder only sees encrypted traffic to Relakks with no possibility to trace your activities whatsoever.

From what I understand no additional software for Windows users is required. Setup should be easy for anyone and configuration shouldn't take longer than 5 minutes.

Relakks charges 5€/month (without bandwidth or traffic restrictions) which probably makes it too much for just topping up balance on aom3 but I find it's a good deal for anyone who's concerned with privacy on the internet.

There are many of these anonymizing services.

For instance: www.dold.se and www.findnot.com

But RELAKKS rules

Has anyone ever tried using either of these web proxies,to see if they work in a real case scenario?
PROXIFY
SOXSIFY
I tried Proxify, and it appears to do what it says, but then again,I am in no need of using it.
At least not yet.
Very simple to use, just type the address you want to get to,but can't,in the form.
If someone having difficulty accessing a site would give it a try and let me know the results, that would be good.

Just for giggles I tried Proxify and entered the Sparks URL. It worked but it was very slow. Didn't enter my signon or password as I am not sure who/what these guys are. I am being blocked by Time Warner so I have not seen the Sparks home page for a while.

It must be the most slow working proxy on the entire Internet. It was still busy finding the site after 5 minutes and then I gave up. Luckily I have access to both MP3Sparks and MemphisMembers without using those kind of proxies

Thanks markstan and solaris.

The slow speed is not effecting me at all.
The sparks page fully loaded in 7 or 8 seconds.
About normal for me.
All other sites there is a 1 or 2 seconds delay, but otherwise loads with the same speed.
A few sites even load faster.

As markstan has said,I do not know who/what these guys are either, and wouldn't be sure if I would signon with my password.
I just discovered this web proxy yesterday.

Thanks for gloating!

I can still get to Alltunes, but wonder when that is going to end!
Anyway, most folks are worrying about topping off and I am concentrating on getting my balance lower!

I am still in pain about losing the 6 bucks on Mp3Stor!
I have decided that while I love Sparks, I am getting tired of the BS and will do business with the half dozen other music shops in which I have dollars deposited.

See Ya - Mark
