Talking "Crippled"? Really, RIAA? Is that a fact? - 06-10-2008, 10:28 AM

From ARSTECHNICA.COM, May 27: "...[The RIAA] provided no information on why it was abandoning the effort [the suit against ALLofMP3] now. But in comments to Ars Technica today, an RIAA spokesman indicated that the group had won, that MediaServices was out of business, and that MP3sparks was badly crippled."

MP3Sparks is getting flooded with so much money now [early June, 2008] that apparently it's crashing computers. And RIAA, not only is ALLofMP3's clone Sparks off life support two weeks after you dropped your suit, but there are a whole slew of Russian and Ukrainian little-brother music sites that have prospered because you sued ALLofMP3.

To quote the words of President Bush, "RIAA, you've done a heckuva job."

This just goes to show that the RIAA can't win. In trying to destroy the Russian mp3 sites, they have made them more popular Well done RIAA

Maybe not crippled but 'Sparks is definitely disabled - 06-10-2008, 01:20 PM

What's missing from mp3sparks is access to credit card facilities. If 'sparks had this the RIAA and the IFPI would be after them like a pack of wild dogs. Likewise allofmp3 and mp3sparks had the the catalogue AND high quality bit rate downloads. None of the music sites (yet) have this feature combination.

I doubt it. Lack of credit card payments doesn't stop them going after non profit making sites like Pirate Bay (I'm excluding ads in this statement of course). I think the RIAA just probably recognises it's not a battle they can win.

What they need to do instead of attacking these sites is embrace them. This is all about music and artistry. With technology advancing by the minute, there will always be ways to get music that the RIAA will not like to hear about. They can't stop it. They stop one, then 10 more pop up just like them. What they need to do is embrace the fact that downloads should cost what the Russian sites are charging (roughly 15-19 cents) and then sit back and enjoy the massive amounts of profit. Everyone still gets their cut, but they will enjoy massive amounts of downloads (more so than the .99 cents a song at iTunes). All for the price of a bunch of servers and some salaried people to man them (and a few other costs). Everyone wins, people are not angry with the RIAA suing kids and music becomes what it once was. Just music.

Lower cd prices to 8.99 to 13.99 for doubles or dual discs/Dvd audio and let people who buy those enjoy the low price as well. Take care of the independent record store owner and keep the price for them at Wholesale the same as it is for the "Big Boxes". Don't let Walmart or Best Buy undercut the little guy. I hate the fact that I have to go to Best Buy to buy discs, but that is my only option as the majority of indies are gone. I have to drive 175 miles to Waterloo Records in Austin if I want a good store and a knowledgable staff.

Forgive my diatribe and rambling...it is what happens when you are used to travelling 4-5 days a week and you are stuck at home surfing job websites in a poor job market.

GO SOX!!!!!!!

Is there not credit card available thru CMPass and txtNation? I know it's a back route but by no means impossible

Huh? Can you clarify please?

He said that Sparks don't offer credit card payments, and I was just commenting that they could still be made, thought not directly.
