Free music - 04-13-2007, 09:58 PM

Why is it that some sites can still offer free music while others can't? What are the rules on that?

I don't know what the answer is for all the sites you're referring to, but in some cases I believe the recording industry receives some money for the sale of MP3 players, in a similar way they got money from the sale of blank cassettes to make up for the loss of sales.

I suppose that could be an explanation, in part. Do different countries have different laws on that?

I've followed the Napster case a fair bit, but I'm not familiar with the laws applying to some of the sites that are linked to in these forums.

I'm looking forward to learning more, and I think there's at least one other thread in this section that deals with that.

I'm always wary of "free" music sites. I carefully research them now, because I've gotten viruses and other bad things from sites that claimed to be "free."

Sites offering free music are illegal worldwide. If you use websites that offer free music, set up a folder to download to (e.g C:\Limewire) and then scan the folder before using. If possible make that folder a folder that cannot access the rest of the drive.

Would it be a problem at this forum if you were to post links to these "free" music sites?

Yes There would be a PROblem with p2p Links ..This site is for and about Allofmp3 and Mp3Sparks and Alltunes And Alternative Russian music sites..But we do not approve of p2p sites..they are illegal and we have warned other posters about this as well...PLease there must be other sites that would be interested and welcome this...but here if you like to discuss any of the
above please share and check out our various forums..we love to talk about
Music itself and share ideas and recommendations...so please respect that..
and of course you are welcome here..
Take care,

Nightfly
