How much would YOU pay for an RIAA-okd website like AOMP3? - 05-25-2007, 05:46 PM

Hi everyone,

With all the crap the RIAA has been able to pull and is spending literally thousands or even millions to shut down AOMP3, I got thinking about how really cool the OEEX system is, and how it was what most got my attention a long time ago when I started using the site.

What would happen if the AOMP3 sat down with RIAA and "worked out a solution", how much would you be willing to pay extra for a 110% RIAA sanctioned allofmp3 with all the choices for bitrate, all the latest music, etc, etc, etc?

I know I would pay twice or perhaps 250% more for something like that if it were the only solution left, I think those extra millions should be enough for RIAA, they need to optimize their companies for "digital" operations and get rid of all the slimy people they have gathered in 30 years or more. If they didn't spend millions on lawyers and political lobbyists, that would surely compensate for their loss in earnings because of the changes in technology and the unstoppable evolution of the world.

Just my thoughts, what do you think?

I really couldn't tell you "how much" until I saw the actual model offered..
and I believe that they are not interested in making an agreement because
they see AOM3 as a threat and as competion..and at this point of time they are being blinded by there own greed and are not willing to be rational and compromise for the sake of all...I too wish for a good solution that benefits
all but realistically...not at this point of time..But things are always changing..
lets at least have hope for the future..
By the way welcome and loved your Nietzsche signature on another post..lol..,

The RIAA wasn't satisfied with $.99 per song on iTunes, and as a result many songs cost more than a dollar. That works out to approximately $.25 per megabyte, and that's WITH DRM.

There are labels like Roughtrade that sell DRM-free mp3s for an acceptable price for me. Taking the automatic encoding at 256kbps into account, it doesn't really cost too much more than Allofmp3, and I would be prepared to pay higher prices so long as you could choose encoding.

The RIAA are out to get as much money as they can get. Allofmp3's model is a bit incompatible because price is determined by bandwidth and encoding. Would be interesting to find out how much the RIAA/artist would be entitled to from the sales of an album from Allofmp3 versus the sales of the same album from iTunes. That would put things into perspective.

I guess it depends - I'll be honest, since the whole AOM3 credit card crack-down made reliably refilling my balance impossible (I mean, first there was the manually entered web address, then you could buy vouchers for a slight surcharge, now supposedly CC payments work on the new MP3Sparks, though my transferred account still hasn't been able to successfully add cash to my balance), I had to become much more frugal in regards to what music I was buying off of AllofMP3 anyway. I mean, once the price got to 3 cents a meg, torrents for certain albums definitely became more attractive, and at 3.5 cents a meg, sometimes the price on iTunes isn't THAT much more (especially if iTunes is selling an album for $7.99 or something, and the AOM3 price is over $3 when using LAME standard as the encode setting, I'll usually go iTunes, and save my AOM3 account for stuff iTunes doesn't carry, import track versions, or something else. I usually buy full albums, so that makes it easier - but still, even 50 cents a track would be preferable to 99 cents of $1.29.

But now that iTunes is offering DRM free 256 kpbs AAC files for the same price (if you buy the full album anyway) as the 128 AAC DRMed versions, for full albums, it isn't quite as good fo a deal - and I don't mind spending a little more to get it "legit" - if I'm going to be spending more than $3 an album anyway. I don't know, for some reason, the $3/$4 per album mark is pretty much my "bargain" threshold...if it gets to that place, it's no longer a bargain, and I'll jut get it legit or torrent it.

Perhaps, out of sheer bloody mindedness, I would NOT pay em one damn cent
I would just keep sticking with P2P alternatively just keep rewarding Aomp3 if they still were around
