IP Tracking? - 06-15-2007, 03:19 AM

Hi. New member here. I've been using AoMP3 for several years and have recently noticed some anomalous behavior. I found this forum in my investigations.

When I access AoMP3 from work (large US defense contractor), I get a message saying the site is down for maintenance when I try to order. When I look at my balance, I get the note saying I can't refill it and there's never an invitation to go to Sparks.

When I access from home (way out in the sticks with only dialup available, which is why I like to use the fat pipe at work), I can order and refill my balance and the Sparks invite is there. If I order something from home, I can then go to work the next day and download it.

Is AoMP3 blocking certain IP addresses? Could that be a reason why so many people are having problems refilling their balances?

I think they are, yes, but it may not be just that simple. If you look at the Relakks thread, you'll see that one person can refill when they use the VPN tunnel but not when they don't, which suggests an IP based issue, but then another person can't no matter what, which seems to indicate something else.

It surely is a quandry!

I think that it is possible that some IP address's might be blocked I too am in the US, and as a I.T. professional feel this might be the case..If they need security to block out possible people that they know are watching
them, say as ATT users..The good guys get blocked with the bad guys in one massive block of IP addys..It is easier and safer than going one user at a time...but than again there have been many exceptions as stated above..that makes this whole thing a mystery ..than again they can allow any individual IPs through the firewall that they want...This mystery though is their surrvival...good for them..
and you being out in the sticks on dial up does not seem so imposing as a IP from of all places US Defense Contractors..lol...
Welcome and see you around,
Night fly

I also notice that message about being "down for maintainance" when I try it at school. Maybe they blocked all U.S. gov't supplied internet connections to protect themselves.
