Well, here is the one from yesterday :-

Court: RapidShare must remove infringing content proactively

Shared with me by a friend in this forum yesterday, so I don't want to take the credit for doing the research

Scanning all files for .mp3 or .avi extensions before granting these files access to the Rapidshare servers is of course totally impossible.

I have heard that these files can sometimes be hidden inside triple password protected .rar files

This leaves Rapidshare with only two options:

1. Close down their operation (and watch one of the other THOUSANDS of file hosting sites take over) or...

2. Move their servers to another part of the world with more liberal laws, when it comes to this

Are both rapidshare.com and rapidshare.de hosted in Germany? I had thought that they are separate but related entities.

By the way, all they are asked is that they proactively monitor these uploads. If their scripts just do the bare minimum like check for .mp3 and .avi and turn a blind eye to password protection, that should be enough

musterbkk, thanks for the news.

no, but seriously - this is really frustrating

MP3skyline archmage. Over 3 100 000 tunes - ain't it magic?
one, two - buckle my shoe, three, four - shut the door, five, six - pick up sticks, seven, eight - lay em straight

They will have to be forced to ban .mp3 (and all the other audio formats), .avi (and all the other video formats), .zip, .rar and .tar files on their servers to risk losing the yellow jersey amongst file host services

And even if they were forced to ban those file extensions, uploaders could very easily change the file extensions to whatever and tell downloaders what to change them back into (in a Notepad file)...

And even if Rapidshare servers are MEGA, MEGA, MEGA fast (a FULL 700 MB .avi-file* divided into 7 .rar files takes 2-3 minutes tops all in all to download), there are other VERY fast file hosting services ready to take over...

And should the new file host leader get attacked by the MAFIAA - the legal procedure will take many months or even years to finish and so on and so on and so on...

*This being my sister's wedding, naturally )

Oh what it must be like to have a fast internet connection.

We have to make do with old fashioned technology that BT thinks is cutting edge.

On a good day with a following wind I can get 4Mbs down and 500Kbs up!

Ashley
If you have one watch you know what the time is. But if you have two you don't know which one is right.

The more advice you get the more confusing it becomes.

Ashley that will not do for a music lover like you..
