Pretty sure that's already been reported. Trying to find the link to the thread...

this might fit in here: have now already heard of (one actually seen) quite a few cases past three
months where customs agents INSIDE a EU country, on a parking lot at a gas station, checked cars
coming from another EU country (even Schengen) and clearly and expressedly asked for laptops
and USB sticks, took them to a nearby parking van, and checked them. took quite a while, and,
unlike their colleagues across the atlantic, they were eventually returned, but my god, where
is this leading?

this was in the luxembourg / german, swiss / german and swiss / austrian border areas, but never
at the actual border.

when will out phones be examined? the music on them, the ringtones? the clips and pictures?
know this is also in the talks, but was not aware it was that close.

feeeling miserable - henry

The customs officers were probably copying ALL the musical content to their own hard drives, so they had something to listen to in between flight landings

didnt even think of that part: become a customs or excise officer, and within
6 months you have the largest music collection on the block.

who needs AllOfMP3 then?

great idea! - henry

Ha ha.

I don't understand HOW does a customs officer prove the source of the Mp3s on one's iPod?

that, vikulenka, i think is the most scary part of it: THEY DO NOT HAVE TO. suspicion is enough. which puts us
purely at the merci of some guys who might have no idea why someone might have 10000 songs on his laptop.

also read last night that the average (?) kid in europe, and i dont think it would be very different anywhere else,
has some 800 illegal songs on his mobile/mp3/whatever player.

for me, frightening. reminds me of witchhunts 500 years ago - henry

Suspicion may be enough to stop and search, but how do they issue a verdict? How can they prove the source of the music on my iPod? I just don't understand the logistics of making this a viable border control method.
